Went for an AMP-SAFARI this moring, got back with...

this

1971 sf PRO REVERB with original Sylvania tubes.

Only thing it really needs is a cap job.

Actually a friend asked me if this amp was any good (he found it in a pawnshop) so I went to check it out and I almost fainted when the old guy in the shop told me he wanted $400 for it.

I bought it on the spot of course...

I think my friend is a lucky guy to have a friend like me cause I did not keep the amp for me but gave it to him!!

Hello friend . Nick you are the MAN, and quite a friend indeed. That looks like it is mint. A friend had loaned me a Pro Reverb a couple of months ago, what a smoker. When another friend came over to hear it his jaw dropped, it had a monster sound with the Tele. Once again Nick, you da Man.

My question is, how did all of these old Fender amps wind up in Greece? This isn't the first one you've found. If I ever get back to Europe, I'm going to take you amp shopping with me, Nick.

I'm looking across the room right now, admiring my 73 Pro Reverb. After a cap, and a BF job (thanks to Tim Swartz), it sounds absoltootly AMAZING (it sounded great beforehand too)!

I LOVE amp safari's!!! I love accompanying friends on their own amp hunts. I just helped a friend score a nice 73 DR in almost new condition.

Great score Nick! I'm 5 or 6 years into owning a ProReverb (mid-70's with Master Vol and tube rectifier) at this point and I think the world of it. Just a great amp. I'm about to have a re-cap and pot cleaning done though so I'll be back to the Princeton Reverb for a while.

I'm thinking about having my tech revoice the tone controls for a bit more mid and a bit less high. I have been paying it through a couple of vintage Altec's and those are pretty brite. Snappy though. Running that Pro at 4 ohms is really freakin' amazing! Of course my ears are still ringing ...

sf & a few bf Fenders were THE bouzouki amps during the late 60's & 70's (they aren't anymore since bouzouki players use more "sofisticated" systems for their instruments ,that btw sound half as good, nowdays)

You remember my post about the Blackface Princeton Reverb I bought very cheap from this (selftitled) crazy greek gipsy guy?
This guy also told me, that his cousin was "the fastest bouzouki player in town" (Berlin)
and that he played through a Fender amp "just like this one, but bigger".
Maybe I should check his second-hand-electronics store again.
With some luck I will find a Blackface Pro or Deluxe for little money there :)

Great shootin' Nick
Went on an amp Safari 2 days ago.The only thing I even considered was some Carvin head in a pawnshop. It had 4 GE 6L6s in it which was the only reason I even gave it any thought.I don't know if I could actually get any useful tone outa such a thing

YEP!The sad thing is that even in Greece these amps are getting scarcer & scarcer (you could buy them by the truckload 20 years ago...)

Actually my very first amp back in 1983 was a mint 1969 twin w/ yellowback JBL's that I bought for $80!!!
(I also bought a bf super also in MINT condition for $200 in 1998)

Also most bouzouki players played twins or supers (sometimes one of each chained to each other!)

AH....a killer bouzouki player playing through two twin reverbs at full throtle and ,of course, with the reverb set at 10!! A THING OF BEAUTY my friend,A THING OF BEAUTY!!
