that quad reverb with the 4 jbl d120f's is a steal.

the jbl's alone if in good shape are worth what he is asking for the amp. 0r more.

thats a really good deal for that amp at that price and with those speakers. if i had the extra monry laying around i would be all over it.

I'm still wondering why many feel if you have a "TWIN or equivalent" you are playing too loud..

Why is this ?

Volume is relative to the scenario, not to a discussion.

I use an 85 Watt Twin 100% of the time now..

Am I too loud ?

What other amp should I use that gives me what I am looking for ?

I think too many folks don't really have a clues when it comes to volume and amps. They see a certain amp, and assume its going to be "X" loud. Not much diff DB wise between 30 watts and 100 watts.

The whole field of "guitar players posting on forums" is populated largely by tourists.

Most don't gig, rarely play with other people and they simply regurgitate what they read on the internet. And they do so with the authority of someone with years of real world experience.

Hence, "Twins are too loud. Nobody needs more than 15 watts."

Then you have the guys who say, "I played a jam with my Champ the other night and was told to turn down!" Yeah, well you turned it up too loud. Do you think it sounded like a Twin Reverb because it was loud?

As evidenced with SS Fenders like Stage and Cybers etc in Ads on CL. Poor Mans twin, Loud like a Twin... If I had a nickle for each time I have read that. [Or typed it ;)]

On the week-end I was digging through an old box of sheet music and I smiled when I found a Fender full line product catalog. I'd guess it was from when I worked in a music store as a teen in the early '70's, sweeping floors and cleaning toilets.

Anyhow, I though the pages might be appreciated in this thread. Fender was really pushing the Big Iron back then.

Enjoy...

Played a 2000's Fender CS Vibroverb today at GC North Dallas and it bit me hard. I'm a jazz and country guy and it seems like the perfect either or amp. I was leaning towards making a head cenversion of a sftr, but the 15" and cesar diaz mods are really screamin BUY ME!!! It doesn't help anything because its been sitting in a guy's studio for a few years and it still has all the paperwork for 1,599. Gotta get it, its off police hold on the 25th, gives me time to scare up the cash.

There´s a ´73 Quad Reverb for sale on the equivalent of craiglist here in Norway that needs new tubes and two new speakers for around $ 615 or so. Man oh man I´m pretty tempted - but who am I kidding, I live in a studio apartment so I guess I´ll stick with my Princeton Reverb for now.

Guitar Center has to hold any instrument that they buy used for so many days before they can put it up for sale. I think it's 21 days or so but I could be wrong. This gives the police enough time to act in case the instrument turns up stolen. Pawn shops have the sames requirement. Maybe somebody can tell us the exact number of days.

I started out on a black face Bandmaster many years ago and never played anything less than a 2X12 50 Watt combo for over 40 years. But even I understand that there is a time and place for everything. Now, in addition to my Twin I have an SCXD. It's great to have and with a 12" extension cab is even up to doing small gigs. There is no denying that todays small watt amps can do amazing things. Then I plug into my Twin and I'm transported to a place called headroom heaven that my small watt amp just cannot take me to. No PA? No mic? Drummer to loud? Some drunk screaming at his wife? Never a problem. Yes, it's heavy. That's one problem. But the Twin solves so many other problems that to me it's more than a fair trade off.

I will chime in and add my agreement that bigger amps just have something that small amps don't. My old band used to play with a wall of amps like Black Sabbath, and people would always give us the obligatory comments: "do you really need all that gear? do you really need to bring four full stacks into my basement?" and the answer was always "yes."

sure you can get a small amp to be as "loud", but it's not the same. I understand the push toward smaller amps these days, but to me, they reach a point of sounding like a pair of headphones on the table turned all the way up. you can hear them, but you can't feel them. that's the difference, to me.

This started life as a Quad Reverb. Split cabs by Rick Johnson. "Semi" Blackfaced, reverb added to Normal Channel for pedal steel. Tolex, cloth, and piping match my Z Maz Jr.
