Need suggestions for...

a practice bass amp. My wife shocked me the other day by saying wants to learn bass. I understand you can't run a bass thru a guitar amp so I want to shop for something reasonable. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Brian, I picked up a mint used Yorkville 50 W for my son. I found it in a pawn shop for $150 Cdn taxes in. The new ones go for $449 + tx. A relative who plays bass was impressed with it.

My daughter just started playing electric at home in addition to playing a "real" bass in the school orchestra. I bought her a nice used Peavey Minx 110. It's a 35 watt solid state amp with a 10" speaker. It sounds pretty good. I paid $90 for it. New ones retail for $299.

swr la series

I have an LA 15 good sound about $300 new don't know used price. About 45lbs though you may want to look for the LA10 or an older used Gallien-Kruger MB100. It is solid state with contour, high boost, built in compression, sustain, xlr out, etc. Has a 12 inch speaker and I can carry that in one hand my bass in the other. Loud enough to be heard light enough to be carried by a woman with no problems. Also sounds ok for guitar, particularly acoustic guitar.

How bout...

A Fender Bassman? If she doesn't stick with it, you get a great guitar amp. Even if she does stick with it, she'll eventually need something better (for bass). Plus you get a bass player. You can't lose!

Thanks for your input...
