Weber Speakers??????????????????????????
What are your favorites and why. Which ones do you use and in what amps and why?
What type of sounds are you going for?

Cool.
I've got a 12F150 coming for my Carr Rambler. I'm interested in what its gonna sound like. After hearing some other speakers in it I decided the stock Kingpin aint my cup a tea. Got a Jensen in there right now.
Theyve got so many its kinda hard to tell which ones to go for first. I wanna try a Clifornia, Silver Bell, Blue Dawg, P12N........................ I dont know what got me on the speaker kick. Just is. When your really cranking it and pushing overbearing explodo overdrive what does it sound like?

Re: Weber Speakers??????????????????????????
"Ted" WeberVST speakers are probably the best speaker presently made for vintage tone. They can be played right out of the box. To review them,, just go to his web page. He makes a speaker for about every occasion. 33 flavors. Basically speakers are either Ceramic, think loud, articulate, and big bottom end, and Alnico, think tweed tone. I've put dozens of them into custom amps I've built and vintage amps I've restored. As far as which is best.. You have to know what you want. If you don't, ask Ted and he'll tell you..

In general, best bet is to call him and tell him what you are trying to do and he will come up with the perfect match every time.
My personal fave at the moment is Cali 12 ceramic. Big, loud, good projection, versatile, are-tick-you-lit. |

less expensive Webers?
just checked the price on the 12A150B as a possible replacement in a Traynor CV40 and it's $170 US.
I'm sure it's a great speaker and Weber seems to be very popular here so can anyone suggest a lower priced Weber with similar ( alnico, early breakup) character? thanks, Mike |

weber!!!
those speakers make my amps really shine...
i have an alnico "R" 8 (A100???) in my tweed princeton and a ceramic "N" 10 in my (F150???) in my SF princeton reverb...those amps sound their best with webers. descriptions on the website are perfectly accurate and the characteristics of the speakers perfectly compliment the characteristics of the amp to get my ideal tweed and bf/sf sounds! i'm hooked! |

I'm another Weber California Ceramic w/Paper Dust Cover lover! 15" w/BF Bassman, 12" w/BF Deluxe Reverb, 10" w/BF Princeton.

I use Weber's P12QR Alnicos in my '65 Deluxe Reverbs. Early breakup and that fine, fine paper cone natural distortion makes my Tele stuff shine the way it's supposed to.
Do not use Humbuckers on this combination...my Firebird blew my first one. That was my fault, I shoulda known better. The speaker I chose was for single coils only and was slightly under-powered for the amp. This was done intentionally to achieve earlier breakup at lower volume. Ted Weber's speakers are a tough one to beat. My style of playin' is in the shadows of Johnny Winter. 8)

The 30 and 50 watt alnico Blue Dogs are my favorite speakers.
I have the Silver Dog but it's a ceramic version. It sounds great with certain amps, and is wonderful mixed with an Alnico Blue. I don't really have the priveledge to entertain two amp setups or two speaker cabs though... so I use one Blue. I've heard a C12NQ or something like that in Phil Jacoby's BFPR, and it was kickin' in it's own right - that amp sounds huge. I like the Celestion G12H30 reissue, but otherwise I think I'm pretty much a WeberVST devotee for life.

Well, well....
I have a Cali ceramic 12 w/paper cap in a 68 DR, which I love, but now I'm thinking that it may be a bit too bright. The low end was VASTLY improved with the addition of this speaker though. I do love this speaker, but I may have it in the wrong amp - I haven't decided yet. OTOH - I have the 12F150 in another 77 DR, and that seems to work real well. That speaker kinda rounds off the high end, while keeping good tight lows. This may be the one for DR's (which tend to be too bright, and too muddy as you turn the bass up). I have a 10" ceramic Sig in my Peavey Classic 20. This is the budget Weber, and it made this amp COME ALIVE Hats off to Ted Weber also, for being a gentleman, and being honest. He talked me out of buying the more expensive alnico speaker, telling me that the DR's don't really have enough wattage to push an alnico magnet to the point where it makes any difference. I've spoke with him many times, and he's a great guy to do business with.

I'm using a pair of C12N's (12F150's) with a '63 Bassman that I built into a combo. I find them to be a good, clear, tight sounding speaker with a fat low end that doesn't get too sharp on the high end. The 12F150's are a great speaker for live work and they record really well. Previously I have used one with a blackfaced Deluxe with great results.
I also have a couple of 10F150's that I use in a Mesa Blue Angel 4x10" combo along with 2 alnicos. |

I have a couple Weber P10Ns (10A150) in my 61 Super. They sound huge for 10 inchers. I've also heard his P12N (12A150) models and they are excellent for highwe powered Fenders in 2x12. Real smooth and huge low end. The 15" Cali is also very nice.
On a side note, Ted Weber was banned from posting on the EffDeePee. He refused to pay $200 per month for the priviledge of posting on the boards there. Not advertising, just posting answers to questions about his speakers, trying to be helpful to the EffDeePee'rs. I don't blame him, that seems like a ripoff in my opinion. What next? |

Just got a Weber Cali Alnico 12 for my old 1950s "detuned" Carlsom enclosure powered by a tweed bassman clone. Sounds mighty fine to me. The clean and gritty sounds are amazing. With fuzz, i'm hearing things i've never heard before. Defintitely a nice speaker/

I only have one, an 8" signature series in my '52 Silvertone "Champ." It sounds great, especially with a lap steel. When I get a combo cabinet for my BMR I'm going to get a couple of his 10" speakers that are as close to vintage Jensens as possible.

Two and counting
I have a great 10F150T in my silverface Princeton and a ceramic Sig 8S in my blonde Gibson GA-5 Skylark (tweed champ). I just emailed Ted to inquire about a pair of 10's for my blackface/blonde Tremolux (he recommended another pair of 10F150T's), my tweed Gibson GA-18T Explorer (he recommended the 10A125), and my drip edge Champ (he recommended the alnico Sig 8S). The only one I'm waffling on is the alnico Sig 8s, since I've heard such great things on this board about the 8A125 in Champs. I could always try the Sig 8S and change to the 8A125 later if need be, since I could always save the Sig 8 for my Skylark.
Ted is great to deal with -- a straight shooter who knows his stuff, and his stuff be good. |

Something I posted in the past...
I pay up to US$80 to airfreight ONE speaker to this side of the world, and I believe the Webers are still worth it.
I've tried - C10Q (10F125) P10Q (10A125) C12N (12F150) C12B P12QR (12A125-O) P12RT (12A100-T) Plus, I'm soon to try out a P15N By comparison, the Reverend (1250), Eminence (10" Legends) and Mojotone (Blackbeauty) I've tried are good, but they invariably get replace by a Weber - more tone and efficiency. That said I'm also quite happy with a Jensen RI P12N right now. I haven't tried Webers version yet, but I do plan to in the future. |

Best Speakers=Weber VST's!!
As good friend RJT, below posts, Weber VST makes the best vintage sounding speakers today.
I currently use 2 P12Ns in an open back cab and a P12N & a P12Q in another cab, using either my Old Flame head or the Brown Sugar head, I am very pleased with thew Tone they produce. 8) 8) I have also had excellent tones w/ a CA 15 paper dust cap and in a 4x10 cab 2 P10-Qs/ 2 P10Rs. To me, unless you have original Jensens, Weber's rule, IMHO. |
