V1/V2 slots question
I'd like to know what the purpose of the the V1 and V2 slots are in an amp like a Blues Deluxe which has these two and a V3, which is a phase inverter. If you play only one channel, say the clean channel, in your amp, does it matter what tube's in V2, or do the tubes in both of these affect both channels in an amp? Are there any guidelines you can give for mixing tubes in V1 & V2? Thanks for any clarification you can give.

Don't know about the Blues Deluxe specifically, but the Peavey Classic series uses V1 for clean (or "normal") channel, and a combo of V1 & V2 for the dirty (or "lead") channel.
In the Peavey, if all you play is the clean channel, you don't even need a tube in V2- some people keep another tube in V2 as a spare for V1.

a 12ax7 tube is actually 2 "tubes" in one bottle. So most dual channel amps use 1/2 of the v1 tube for the clean channel, the other 1/2 plus v2 for the drive channel.
Generally, v1 affects the tone of your amp the most, both clean and drive channels, because it is used for both. I believe v1 is the most important tube in the amp, from a tone standpoint. |
