How to? speaker out

I want to wire a 'speaker out' into my sf champ. does a 1/4" switch jack exist? One that would cut power to the combo speaker and send the signal to the external when a cable is plugged into it?

would I need to worry about such a device introducing extra resistance ....thereby changing slightly the impedence of the speakers?

You can always unplug the speaker, and make a little pigtail to a 1/4" jack mounted on a bracket. Then, wire a 1/4 plug to the existing speaker. Just unplug one and plug in the other. Remember to only use a 4 ohm load.

true, I could go that route. But I was hoping to find some sort of plug/switch that would do the trick. I assume they are available, as most modern amps have the feature. I've just never done any amp mod's and didn't know the best place to find the parts, or if it could introduce any unforseen problems.

That's what I would do. The Blue's Jr comes standard from the factory set up just like this -- works like a champ.

Yes, they are available, and some modern amps have that, but those jacks are plastic, and they are meant to be mounted to a PCB board. If that's what you want, then they sell them at all the amp parts places.

What you want to do can be done with a Switchcraft 12A, the standard Fender shorting jack.

Install the jack, move the output transformer secondary lead from the tip lug of the original jack to the tip lug of the new jack. Install another lead from the shorting lug of the new jack to the tip lug on the original jack, done.

No electronic concerns, as you mentioned. Just be sure to turn the amp off before plugging in the extension speaker.

The only other concern I can think of is, years down the road when A SF champ is worth a grand, yours will be worth 15-20% less, cuz you drilled a hole in it.

Hey, thanks for the info. I found one. I think I can get creative enough with the mounting to keep from defacing the amp too.
