SFVR is back at last! About those Eminence Legends...
I think they sound just fine, although I've yet to gig the amp. It's also hard to say how different the speakers are since the amp is generally sounding soooo much better - some components replaced, re-bias, some dry joints fixed and so on. It's brighter, much louder, and the background noise / hiss is a fraction of what it was before, so it was well worth the service. Had a close look at the old stock speakers - boy, did they look tired!
Prior to the amp being seviced some folks had said some quite nice things about it, I liked it, but felt a service was in order. I had to laugh though, when I read the engineer's report on the invoice - in the box that read "Fault" he'd simply put... "Sounds bad!". :-) I'll see how we go with the Eminences for a while, even though I was pretty set on Webers. |

OK.....
So it sounded bad before.......? Hmmmm I liked the soundclips from the live gig....with the kind of music you make, I guess it does not require to be loud and sharp...But it´s good to have the possibility, and know that everything is in shape........Did you change some of the tubes as well ?
Me...I think my cts/JBL´s combination in my SFSR are fine now. New tubes has made it much more tight in the low frequencies, and increased headroom and volume.(Firm bottom)I think I´ll swap the two cts speakers out at one point, because they look a bit tired, with small tears in the paper where the wires attatch...... Was it CTS in before Was it the legend 105´s you got put in there ? It would be great with some soundclips after the changes, to be able to make a side by side comparisment. Baard |

Re: OK.....
Hey Baard - hope you're well. Funny ain't it? I didn't think it sounded that bad, but some of these amp-techs have ears like bats I guess. I'd already totally re-tubed it with Harmas. Yeah, I think the old speakers were CTS and it turned out the cones only actually moved in one direction! Yep, Eminence 105s in there now. As luck would have it, I just got asked to do a gig tomorrow night with a guy's band I sometimes play with. He's very influenced by Jeff Buckley type stuff, so I get to go from "pretty" and clean, to ugly and loud! It also looks like that gig will be recorded too, so I'll be able to listen back and compare. What's the bet it sounds exactly the same to my tired old ears :-)

Baard
That will be a nice test for your amp....Gigging with drums and other loud instruments is certainly a huge difference from The LOW COUNTRY stuff. You´ll be glad to have that extra definition and efficiency. I´ll be gigging in the other part of the land saturday. And tonight´s rehersal will be great ! New strings/new tubes. Harma is the same as Electro Harmonix some say. Those are real good tubes IMHO.
Good luck with the gig.I hope to hear some MP3 from it if possible. Baard |
