Princeton or Princeton Reverb Owners
Mine is a 79 Silverface, had it for roughly 2 months, I was wondering if you are still using the original speaker or did you change it? If you changed it what did you go with and what style of music led to your decision. Are you satisfied with the speaker you chose?

I up-sized to 12"
I have an 80's model, identical circuit and black-face cosmetics. I cut a larger opening in the speaker board and mounted an old Jensen P12-QL in there. It sounds real good at home volume level. My amp isn't really loud enough to play with a group, so I just use it at home. I think it would be great in the studio, but I haven't had any opportunity to try it out.

Changed in my '68 PR
Tried a couple, but ended up with a 10" Weber California. Tons of volume, and a full clear tone.
It complements the nice breakup you get with the amp working (volume 5w/buckers, 6-7 w/sc). My review is still posted on Weber's site <www.webervst.com> which is a good source for speaker info. P.

The original speaker (oxford?) in a '69 Princeton was a lousy speaker, flabby, farty, as lousy as an original alnico speaker in a 70s VC. An inexpensive current Jensen C10Q was a big improvement: more efficient, tighter clearer bass, clearer sound over entire range.

Weber 10A125
Howdy,
My '65 Princeton had an unimpressive stock speaker, so I replaced it with a Weber 10A125 (AlNiCo). It's got a tad more bass and breaks up wonderfully with Gibsons. This amp doesn't want to overdrive, as you may have learned. For my money, there's something smoother and more pleasing about AlNiCo. Good luck. Respectfully, Eggman |

Weber California 10 Ceramic
I have one of these in my PR...while it was an amazing improvement in volume and no more bass farting out.....After having it in there I'm beginning to think it's just too much speaker for that amp. I'm thinking it's too mid-rangey and stiff sounding. I may try and experiment more....One thing is for sure is that the original speaker isn't much good except for very low volume playing...

My 66 PR came with an original Jensen C10N that had been reconed. I've heard they never sound as good as the original cone, but I can't even imagine a speaker that sounds better than this one. I've also heard a lot of good things about the Reverend Alltone 1025 speakers. They are supposed to emulate the original Jensen's better than the Jensen reissues. Very inexpensive as well. I had a 12" in my HRD and it was very nice.

Weber 10F150T
8) My Princeton Reverb is a 1976. I just replaced it with a Weber 10F150T. This speaker brought back the chime and crystal tone that it had lost. I like the way it breaks up with my Tele, Strat and Gibson. It has only been a week since I replaced it and they say it gets better when it is broken in. I'm very happy with this speaker so far, time will tell........Reverb.....With one B.........

my princeton reverb is a 1964...it came to me with a non-original no-name speaker.
i put in an EVM10M....sounded great, but somehow "all wrong" i put in a weber C10S....blew it first night out i put in a weber P10Q......sounded nice, but in the end, it blew it, too. i put in an emenence copperhead, and i can't imagine how i've lived for as long as i have without this speaker! great tone, great immediacy, extremely attractive price and readily available thorugh dependable distribution channels. i've made the switch...sure glad i did! go emenence! |
