Solo set up
I would appreciate any ideas and suggestions for a good, quality solo amp/PA set up for my sojourn into solo performing in the new year.
I will be playing mainly acoustic rock, blues and slide, with about a quarter of my set on a strat or tele, in small venues, pubs and wine bars mainly. I am impressed by the small - but expensive - AER amps. Lovely acoustic reproduction. Vocal wise, though I am gonna need a PA, I would guess? Thanks in advance for all suggestions. |

DigitTech GNX4 might come in handy
This is a remarkable and hugely versatile workstation pedalboard.
Couple it with your P/A - or, one or more Tech21 Power Engine 60's... You can also mic up through the GNX4... Pretty cool overall. ~A~ |

Carven offers some nice, small yet great sounding PA's. I purchased a Kustom "Profile" on sale for $200.00 earlier this year. Small, compact and it really puts out some good sound for it's compact size. If you play larger rooms, it may not have enough poop, for for small pup, coffe house type gigs, it's perfect. Peavey's Excort 2000 is a nice portable system. Fenders Passport is pretty portable. Our church uses one for childrens ministery and it does the job. Yamaha has several killer samll systems also. Sounds like your on the right track for your acoustic amp. Behringer makes a nice, inexpensive acoustic amp. I tried a Crate ( of all things! ) acoustic amp yesterday the local shop had used for $150.00. Killer little amp. Lots of poop and the tone shaping capabilities were nice. Yorkville ( Traynor ) has a wonderful, inexpensive acoustic amp.

T bone,
I have messed about with the solo thing and from my limited experiences I would run the guitar through one of the PA channels, save that amp money for a box that you may want to run your guitar through. I use a simple tube pre-amp. I don't own one, but I have heard alot of raves about the LR Baggs gear. I apologize if I'm stating the obvious here, using the PA channel will allow you to control your mic and guitar levels and guarantee that in the corner of some venue someone's not only hearing your vox and no acoustic amp...or someone near that acoustic amp isn't only getting guitar.. PM me if you care to, there is a great newgroup of people doing this type of act and it has some great info that may help you. Good luck! |

small Peavey all the way.
I highly recommend listening to John Lee Hooker's Live Solo recordings - John Lee besides being one of my heros was the best solo guy on the planet - nothing too technical but man what a vibe - if you can get a fraction of his mojo you'll be a raging success.
