Tube suggestions for a Traynor YCV40WR

I recently bought a Traynor YCV40WR, I'm awaiting my replacement since the first one died in a week.

The 12AX7's overdrive to quickly for my likings, any way I can get the clean channel to hold up at higher volumes?

I'm surprised it's breaking up so early. I can really crank mine before it breaks up on the clean channel. Your version comes with the Celestion Vintage 30 right? That's a real rocker's speaker and it breaks up early. I think a speaker change might help your problem more than trying different 12AX7s. I put an Eminence Red White and Blues in mine and it's a really clean sounding speaker. If anything, I wish it would break up a little more.

Apok, you could try a 12au7. It has less gain as the 12ax7. If I was you I would retube with these ...

If you go the speaker route, try www.ddspeaker.com and talk to Dana. He's an honest guy with good speaker knowledge and good prices. Free shipping too!
