1965 Princeton in GC

Was in GC today. Just four knobs fo volume, tone and tremelo. Had a Jensen speaker in it. They wanted $899.00. Is this over priced? What should you expect to pay for amp like this?

Should be a 1964

Sounds like the brownface transition amp. Was it black tolex, and faceplate with cream knobs? These are brownface circuits, with some blackface cosmetics.
The brownface are probably worth more cash, than the transitional one.

A definite Gem in the small tube amp category.

Not sure of value, sounds on the high side to me I got the 1964 transitional off of ebay for 500.00 about six months ago, with some minor issues. I think I got a good deal.

Tim

It was a blackface, black tolex. Looked like 10 inch speaker. Is this strictly a practice amp, or is it enough to gig with.

Mainly practice studio amp

This about a 12 watt amp. You should play it. The sound is fairly warm for a fender tube amp. These are not real loud amps. Lots of folks do gig with them if they are mic'd up. One of the best tremolos around.

Yes, it's a lot of money. Try to deal on it.
OTOH, you may end up with a CLASSIC piece of gear that you may have been missing all along and will never part with! What is tha worth to you, personally????
Look deep inside, check for mods and reverse mods, original speaker???? Old Jensens are the best for me. Turn it to 10 and lay into it. Let it warm up for 15 minutes and see if there is any HUM. Hell, before they get my money, they have to earn it, and then the amp better be sanctified, by me.[/i]

That is high, even for a BF ... There is realtively little difference between a BF or an SF in that amp. The Princeton Amp is a real classic but it isn't worth that kind of money...

Four knob princeton

Has a little different circuit than the SF and BF princetons. Which have five knobs, for the different tone stack.
