VOX AD50VT Clip - Dreaming Of Heaven
Who says you can't get good tone from a modeler???
Please listen to it a few times and let me know what you think! http://www.kewlpack.com/misc_files/...fHeavenMix3.mp3 I've only been playing for a couple years so please pardon the shredding - I got carried away! LOL. Someday maybe I'll play like Joe S. or Steve V. hahaha. All done with a piano/drum backtrack, my strat, my ovation and my vox. Wheeee - this is FUN! ~A~ |

No prob.
I had my Tube OD stomp on ... that may have attributed to the squish... I haven't got a lot of experience with Mixing either... it sounds really full and punchy on my headphones, but on PC things are thinner... <shrug> - it's hard to get it all nailed down. Any feedback is better than none! :) (EDIT: I adjusted the EQ and Mix levels so hopefully it sounds more balanced.) Cheers! ~A~ |

Found a problem in the signal chain...
I was monkeying around with my setup last night and found a tone squashing bug!
Signal Chain: Strat > Korg AX1500G > Boss GE-7 EQ > VOX AD50VT. The problem was the AX1500G. Even when everything is "off" (i.e. in Bypass mode), it introduced a buzzy/fizzy kind element to my tone. Something must be causing signal loss or something. I switched around to the various amp models on the VOX and they all sounded very very similar with the buzz/fizz overwhelming it. Even the VOX AC30TB setting was sounding like the Marshalls - give or take a bit of overdrive! ;) Anyway, I took the Korg out of the chain and (at least to my ears) PRESTO! The amp tones were unique and clear again. I will probably revisit the song again in a few weeks (I'm sick of messing with it for now!) and lay down the guitar parts again with the better tone. Hmm - so the lesson kids: Be careful what you put in your signal chain! It may eat your tone, little by little! But then, you already know that. :P Adios. ~A~ |

I've got a Vox AD60VTH
and I think the tones are fine. I've been using it now for about 8 months and have put my tube amp in the corner. I like them because of the versatility. My experience has been that no two amps sound alike, even if they are the same brand, style, wiring, etc. I've heard some pretty awful tube amps and some pretty dreadful SS/modelling amps. For my personal tastes I really like the Vox line of modelling amps. They seem to have gotten it right without a lot of complicated programming.

After read numerous articles on recording and EQing the mix, I found out I commited countless booboos in getting the tracks down and then how I have been mixing them.
Here I go again...record/mix/record/mix... sigh, my wife is gonna start serving me supper in my little office upstairs! LOL. Thanks for the comments guys. ~A~ |
