1x12 or 2x10
I'm considering an Allen Accomplice kit. What I can't
decide is whether to go for the 1x12 or the 2x10. Any opinions on which is a better way to go? At some point I'll probably get an extension cabinet, so then the question becomes which is a better set up: 1x12 with a 2x10 extension, or 2x10 with a 1x12 extension? Have any of you played through one (or both) of these set ups? Pros? Cons? |

I say there is no better. both have +'s and -'s to me.
I spent quite some time playing with a 2x10 and adding a 1x12 extension and really liked it alot. Speaker choice took a while to find though, but when you find it, it's great - but 2 cabs is a pain to lug around. Simple observation can be - 10s lacked the lower end a 12 can bring, while the 12 didn't have the 10s punchiness I like. Put them together and they complimented each other really well for my tastes. With that being that - I'm back to a 2x12 these days. |

See if the baffle can be removed on your Allen, and buy both types of baffles, shouldn't be that much extra if they remove easily.
My favorite? a 1-12, 1-10 combo. I have a Super Reverb housed in a Vibrolux cabinet that I modded the baffle to this setup, I love it. PS, the baffle had already been hacked when I got it, I didn't cut the original out (for the Vintage Police out there) It's housing a Weber C10VS and an old EV SRO alnico 12. A bit heavy, but well worth it. It took awhile to get the speakers worked out tho...If he'll cut you a 1-12, 1-10 baffle, give it a shot! |
