Gretsch 6156 "Playboy"
I just picked one of these up (a '57) very cheap at GC. Man, is it great! I played it next to a wide panel deluxe, and the two were indistinguishable. They also use the same weird octal preamp tubes (6sj7 and 6sq7), not to mention the Jensen p10... For the $1200 difference, I'm not sure anyone should buy a deluxe! I also like the cosmetics, although the Supro accoutrements are not for everyone. I am also in the process of ordering a kit from Weber (5f4), I'll keep you all posted on the progress on that one.

Gretsch 6156T
Mine is from the early 60's. It uses 12ax7 preamp tubes & 6973 power tubes. I've had it from about 1964. I replaced the speaker with a Naylor "1040". Make sure to put a grounded power cord in the amp for safety.
What output tubes does yours use?
