I'm no expert, but wasn't the showman designed by Leo Fender to help dick dale get the loud sounds he used onstage?
I know at lease Dick credits himself with testing the original dual showmans. Plus I think they used 2x15 cabs. But then again, I may be wrong.

A Dual Showman Reverb is esentially a Twin Reverb in head form.
The Showman...or Dual Showman...*without* reverb is a 100-watt head using a typical Fender circuit. The "Dual" version only means it had a different speaker cabinet configuration.

There's a Family of 'em.
The Showman - The Dual Showman - The Dual Showman Reverb.
The Dual Showman Reverb TFL-5000D is a Twin Reverb in Head form. I've had two and was crazy to sell the '68. One of the dumbest things I've ever done period. I'd love to get a "1968 Dual Showman" the one with a DripGuard and NO Reverb - they're a scary head with a 4X12 Half Stack Set-Up. I can't believe I sold the TFL5000-D's.....

I have a '65 Showman
& it is a Twin, sans reverb, in head form. Mine also sounds phenominal. Oh yeah!
Right now I've pulled two of the output tubes & plugged it into a MArshall 2X12, very sweet. Someday I hope to track down a 1X15 cab for it. There was also a Dual Showman reverb, & a red knob version too.

Apparently it was real popular to stuff Showman guts in a Twin or Pro Reverb cabinet. I keep seeing these everywhere. I've seen a couple around here locally. I've also seen a Bandmaster in the same cab, covered in butt-ugly green tolex.
I've seen a lot of Fender amp mutilations over the years. This one may be a good deal, if you can pick it up cheap. Someone needs to educate the seller because it seems like he's of the opinion that the amp is original.

Yeah, not an original Fender issue.
But man, that thing must be a beast. =:-O Also, I notice it says it's been outfitted with wheels, which is a Very Good Thing – if you could pick it up off the floor (questionable), I guarantee you couldn't carry it very far. ;-)
It'd make a pretty cool steel guitar amp, though. – CS |

"No footswitch so I don't............."
Sounds like the reverb doesn't work. Or it has no reverb pan since he says "No footswitch so I don't know if the reverb/tremolo works." No switch needed for reverb.

Avoid.
If you want an amp like that, buy a *working* Twin Reverb. And only buy one of those if you want to play *really* loud and/or *really* clean all the time.

Thanks guys
Thanks for the great info guys. I didn't intend buying it I was just unsure of what it was supposed to be as I'd never seen one before. I'll stick with my Twin.

Looks like ...
There is a twin reverb chassis out there without a home. Maybe a twin reverb head now. Wouldn't that be nuts, a showman in a combo and a twin in a head. The things people will do. I'd look around for that twin chassis myself.
