Here's a site for the '74 VC I bought a few moths ago.

Do you have any clips of the your VC running in "tweed" mode, by any chance?

Not yet

No sample of the normal vs tweed mode yet. Maybe Monday night I'll tape one.

As a consolation, here's a clip of the homebrew "tweed" champ. Is exemplifies the change in gain possible at various volumes.

Cool, thanks. An mp3 is worth 1000 words...

Sounds great.

Getting a brighter sound (when cranked) has been tuff from the homebrew Champ. I've already lowered the value of some coupling caps and added a 1 or 0.1 bypass cap to the 1st stage. Adding one to both stages caused feedback/oscillation. I had a "bright cap" on the volume control but that just makes things brighter when not cranked so I took it off. Added a presence control but that too removes treble so I took that out. I have a feedback disconnect switch that doesn't change the "tone" but does add gain.

The cab could be part of the equation too. I have a "universal" output tranny in it so I can run my 4X10 Marshall with it. Looks pretty funny side by side. I don't like the lack of "fullness" from the closed back at that low volume from the Marshall.

Maybe some day I'll lower more coupling caps but I've also felt that I should be adding high end rather than lowering low end. Of course it's all relative.

I guess the right thing to do would be to remove bass via lower couplers and then add a tone (treble cut) control. Hmmmmmmm

Pull

Here's a sample of the cranked vs cranked and pulled sound.

http://www.geocities.com/jjsant/Vibrochamp.MP3

Not a huge difference but a little more mids, volume, grit and sustain with it pulled.

That's a pretty significant difference. The distortion sounds a lot tighter. Thanks for posting the clips.
