Need To Buy an Amp Stand - Recommendations?

I'd like a heavy duty and very sturdy one, ideally with a good bit of flexibilty - variable height, variable angle, easy on the tolex, etc.

What do you folks recommend, and where can I get it?

Thanks!

I have one of those oak deals...from MF. Was about $40.. It's non-adjustable...and folds up like a lawn chair.

What's wrong with a sturdy chair ??

The Industry Standard 8)
If You end up sticking an SM-57 in front of the Amp it'll be
a lot easier than an angle thingy - plus my friends won't
trip over a chair - all my friends are like me, Cro-Magnon
Musicians - nobody remembers what their face even looks like - and that's a good thing.

I have a Yorkville stand. It's great. It's sturdy and adjustable. You can adjust the height of the amplifier and the angle. It's one of the few I've seen that allows you to set your amp vertical as well as angled.

Quik Lok makes a number of different amp stands. I'm using one of the heavy duty ones to hold my Bassman.

Street price is higher than a lot of other brands (you get what you pay for). As always, check eBay.

Gemini makes a nice "A" frame stand that just tilts the amp back. It also provides a threaded vertical support so you can easily mount a boom or gooseneck for micing the amp. This stand is cheap ($15 to $30 depending on where you get it).

I have the standard tubular stand that GC sells. You know, the one they always show assembled wrong in the pictures. If you use it that way, the whole thing will fall forward. Anyway, it's adjustable for height, but I haven't seen any adjustable for angle. If you use an amp with the top rear edge controls, you won't want to tilt your amp anyway, because it makes it really hard to see or use the controls.

Poor man's amp stand

I'm currently using 2 'milk-type' crates from walmart (slighty bigger than their illegal bretheren). I've got them held together with a bunch of zip-ties & covered over with a piece of black fabric.

Total cost of about $10, stable, and looks pretty darn good. NO adjustability though.

I use a QuickLok Low Profile, but had to put an aluminum bar THROUGH the top pipe, because my Hot Rod Dlx was too wide. The pipe sticks out an extra foot on each end to catch the sides of the Dlx. Works well for me. I usually surround the amp w/ plexiglass too, for sound isolation.

Carvin...

has a decent heavy duty (to 150 lbs) amp stand for $30. Set angle but height adjustable. I have a couple of them and they are great!

If it's an open back amp then how about "The Enhancer "?

It's a stand that takes the lowend from the back of the amp and sends it out the front.

Those 'enhancers' seem pretty cool, but not for over $300.

I use an Auralex Gramma.......

It isolates the amp from the floor allowing the amp to sound more consistent in different locations. Great for use in all of those crummy stages you come across..... some stages are too live, others are dead.

It really tightened up the bottom end of my SFDR, the one downside is the fact that it doesn't tilt up toward ear level like a lot of stands.

Th other stand I use is a simple fold up stand I got from Guitar Center some years back... sorry I can't remember the name.

amp stand

This is what I have been using for the last few months. It is adjustable and works fine with my new Reverend Kingsnake.

I got it thru Musicians Friend.

I have an Enhancer & love it. My wife bought it for me a few yrs. ago after seeing\hearing one at a guitar show. The downside is the price & the size. I use it for local gigs, but dont carry it on the road with me, because of the size...basically just more stuff to haul. What I use & recommend is the lid off of my roadcase. My amps stay in roadcases, so when I get to the gig, I take the pullover lid off & set my amp up on top of that. Perfect height, stable, & you kill two birds with one stone.

Yup. That's the stand i talked about before, and if you use it like that, you might as well just throw your amp on the floor, because that's what's going to happen. The arms are supposed to be the other way around, so that the weight of the amp is above the stand, and not in front of it.

I've got two of those Gramma things, and they are a tremendous invention. But the original question was an amp stand that would tilt and adjust.

Now that I look at the picture, they do have it put together backwards!!!! The large ends hold my amp.

My amp is pretty secure this way. Much more secure than setting on a chair. Plus, I don't extend the height very much.

Trag,
Like I said, those seem like a really neat product, but for that much money, I can just buy another whole amp, and boost my sound that way.
