New Kingsnake is here

I got my new Reverend Kingsnake yesterday! It came off the UPS truck and strait into the fire last night (gig). All I can say is WOW! This amp is 32 pounds of fire-breathing tone! I could not be happier. I set it on Lo-Fi for most of the night, with an occasional switch to the UK setting just for kicks. I usually gig with my Marshall DSL2000 and my Tube Screamer for most of my lead work, but found that I had no need to step on the TS last night. I just used my volume knob and PU selector on my 69 thinlines.
Reverend has a real winner on their hands with this amp. I can't wait to sit down and play with the different settings on it tomorrow. I am curious to hear what the blackface and tweed settings sound like.

I sat and watched your dancing Spiderman for quite a while before I read your post. Very cool.

Sounds like a great amp. Are you going to change your screen name?

I think I am stuck with my screen name. Though, If I could, I would..

The Blackface sounds are very nice. It can sound very similar to a Deluxe Reverb, but you have the option of a little more gain if you wish.

The "Lo-Fi "sound is like a cross between the Deluxe and older Marshall / Vox sound. It sounds similar to a Matchless tone. So far like this setting best. It chimes really nice, but when you turn up the volume on your guitar it really sings and grinds like a Marshall.

How much did you pay???

Just curious....Reverend stuff seems pretty fairly priced. Also if you changed your screen name would you be "Reverend Thinline" or "Kingsnake Thinline" ??? Both are cool.

This is the link to their site. They sell direct to the customer, although they do have a few select dealers. The Kingsnake is $699 US dollars.

As far as the new screen name, it looks like I am stuck with how it is. (I just hate commitment.) Don't get me wrong, I still love my Marshall. It has its purpose in life. It's just one more tool in the toolbox of tones. And we all know, you can never have enough tools!

Hi, Marshall Thinline - So, did you find out what the tweed settings sounds like? Was it like a tweed Deluxe (at 20watts) or a tweed Bassman (at 60watts)

How good was the Blackface settings? More like DR, VR, SR...?

Was the output option from 60w to 20w effective? Do you got loads of headroom at 60w and get a nice grind (a la DR) at 20w? Do you have some headroom at 20w, still?

I'm seriously thinking of picking up the Kingsnake myself.

"So, did you find out what the tweed settings sounds like? Was it like a tweed Deluxe (at 20watts) or a tweed Bassman (at 60watts) "

Now that I have had it a few weeks, the "US" settings to me are like a Deluxe Reverb, only with the ability of some more gain. It is a very loud amp. I am mostly using the 20 watt setting, although you get more bass response when using the 60 watt setting. I use the 20 watt setting because I like to push on the edge of distortion.(It is a loud 20 watts!) It seems at home I use this setting the most.

The Lo-Fi setting cuts the high end off the US settings and adds a bit more gain and midrange. It kind of reminds me of a Matchless type of sound. It works really nice for me when playing blues songs.

The UK setting is what I have been using most for live gigs now. It is very responsive to your guitar volume. I use the volume to kick it up a notch when needed. This way I don't have to use my Tube Screamer very often.
It seems to work best for my live situation for now.

Thanks, man.

Sorry to bug you about this -- but what can you say about the clean headroom. I know you said it gets loud... but I wonder if it's a clean loud or dirty loud.

I don't expect you to give me decibel rating, but, for eg, do you feel that the clean tone before breakup is sufficiently loud unmiced for a small (50-100) club gig?

At what level on the amp volume control does it start to break up at either 20w or 60w?

Sorry to ask detailed questions. I'm not in North America and might have to buy this amp without actually testing it. The specs are exactly what I need - I just need feedback on the tone and performance.

Please don't think that you are bugging me. I love discussing anything to do with music :D

This is not a High gain amp at all. If you intend on using the "US" setting (black face sound) you can get ear-splitting loud without breakup. This is the cleanest of the three settings. It will have no problem filling a 100 person club without a mic. If you are looking for big clean power, set it on the 60 watt setting and set the Schizo switch to US.

Before the Kingsnake, I have been using a 100 watt Marshall DSL2000 Half stack. This little bugger will keep right up with it, and it only weighs 32lbs.

If you have any questions about the amp, call them direct. This is what I did. But, I did have the fortune of hearing the Hellhound before I purchased this amp.

You may want to check with them about delivering out of the country though. I think they are only shipping to US and Canada right now.

Joe Naylor answers questions daily on this site. I asked him if he would sign my amp and he did.(COOL!!!)

Thanks for the quick and detailed response. This amp is sounding more and more attractive. It's just right up my alley.

I wouldn't mind using the 110v. I can also have it shipped to a relative/friend in the US and I'll just pick it up when I'm over (perhaps middle next year).

Thanks again!

Looks like this amp weighs in so light partially because of the new futuristic Jensen speaker. Looks pretty cool. I'd like to check one of those out.
