Victoria 518 vs. 5112

Both are 5 watt Champ-style amps, but one has an 8" speaker, and the other has a 12" speaker and a larger output transformer. I've played Champs before (love em!) but I'm a bit of a simpleton as far as amps go. What does a 12" speaker and larger transformer do to the sound? Make is bassier? Give more headroom?

I haven't played those amps, but my guess would be - both. A bigger, bassier sound and with more headroom.

sound samples

Yeah, the new Victoria site is really cool. They list the 518 on the models page, and they have sound samples for it, but the only mention of the 5112 is on the prices page. Must be a frequent custom order or something.

Hey Lew.....

How about $$$$?

Have you seen the prices on Ted Weber's 5F1 kits?

https://weberspeakerscom.secure.poww...e/kitord_r.htm

You could build a really nice one that's just as good as a Victoria for a heck of a lot less...Ted's even got some other interesting models listed in there.

Thanks Lance. I had no idea Ted W was offering a number of complete (with cab) tweed amp kits, or even just the champ. check out a Collins "double deluxe" (?) kit for $480 (not yet released)...or how about a Bassman for 600 bucks!

winter project anyone?

Mik

I know I know!!!

$600 for a tweed Bassman!! If I didn't already build my "Pro Deluxe" (5E3 w/P15), I'd probably do the 5E5A.

I think I know what I want for my birthday.

Cheers Mate

Hey Thanks Lance!

I have to be able to get hold of it easily in the UK.What with shipping and all that.

But I think that £££ is a VERY good reason, and i could do with about 8-10 watts really.

I've ordered the 5e3x2 (Collins DD? Good name) and am already gassing for the low power tweed twin. Same cab as the DD so I can swap them out without my wife getting suspicious.

A bassman would be cool too.
