VOXY
Can anyone tell me the going price or any opinions of the 1965, ALL TUBE, Cambridge Reverbs? Looking into buying one from an old friend, and we want to look at a price before we just jump in (neither of us wants to get bit).
Thanks Kyle

U.S. built by the Thomas ORgan Co. IF I were you , I would do a search on the 'net and completed ebay auctions. MY 2008 book places an ORiginal exc cond above in the $1200 range...surprises me! That book also puts the Solid state tha followed that tube version Cambridge at $1K!!! I am skeptical that they are actually worth that much, especiallly the SS.....but if I owned one maybe I would feel differently! haha That Vox logo carries a certain cachet. Imho, the speaker is the best part of it....should be a Celestion.....maybe a 'Silver Bulldog' alnico G12.

In my (limited) experience - if I had $ for this kind of purchase, I'd start getting interested around $1000. I've heard of the tube versions going for around $1400, but that's pretty darn high in the present climate. They are in demand, from what I remember sonically a lot like a Princeton Reverb (moreso than an AC15, say), but not like the JMI/UK made Voxes from the early-mid '60s. Unlikely that the amp will have Celestions. The solid state models are worth a good deal less - there's one on the local Craigslist with a reverb problem that won't sell for $200.

I once came across a Super Beatle in non-functioning condition. I pulled the 4 'silver bulldogs' Celestions out of it and sold the pieces. Thomas ORgan Co. U.S.-built Voxes...esp the Super Beatle....almost ruined the Vox company due to the reliability problems....and poor sonics to boot when they were working! The tube amps are a better bet for utility that their SS brethren, I suppose.
IF that amp doesn't have a Celestion Silver Bulldog in it, it would be worth much less to me than that book price...personal opinion. |

It has a 10 inch "Vox, heavy duty, loudspeaker" in it. It is a celestion. It also needs some tubes replaced in it. It looks to be in very good condition, it has been used as a practice amp for about twenty years now it looks. And before that is was my friend's, father's amp. It hasn't been beat up through the years like a lot I've seen from this era.

Actually, it looks like this is more of the speaker 10" "Gold Bulldog" speaker made by Oxford Speaker of Chicago IL
http://www.voxshowroom.com/ct/amp/us...rb/golddog.jpg I've been doing some searches but haven't found anything at all really. I might just be looking in the wrong places

It's very much like a Princeton Reverb with EL84's instead of 6V6's. Great amp. I would snag it up if you could find one on the cheap. If it's a matter of just picking up a player amp and the price was over $700 I would pass on it but that's me. For the collector or the guy that had one years ago and has to get back the one that got away? I would look for minty condition over that price range.
