First Gig with a Blue Dog

I played my first gig with a Ceramic Blue Dog Speaker from Ted Weber on Sunday and I wanted to give a quick review for people who were on the fence. I am using an Avatar 112 cabinet (closed back) with a Laney Lionheart 20 watt head.

I really loved the way this thing performed.

First- it is loud. We were in a pavilion with a descent amount of room (Maybe 25' wide) and I was worried that if I moved to the other side of the stage to talk to the other guitarist I would lose myself in the mix, but this speaker clearly and easily projected across the stage. Even when I was standing right next to his 412 cabinet hooked to a 100 watt head I could hear myself. We ended up rotating my cabinet away from the bass player because he said I was too loud where he was standing!!! With a 112 @ 20 watts outdoors!!!

Second- Did I miss the lack of bottom end? Nope. This speaker spews mids and that's all I care about when I'm playing with a full band, especially since I was running through an SM57 in the main mix.

Third- Pedals. I love pedals. This took my pedals very well. I accidentally dimed the gain on my fuzz face (I really need to label my DIY pedals) and didn't sound nearly as harsh or farty as other speakers that I have heard. When I readjusted the gain it was smooth and creamy with my screamer, 250, and fuzz.

Finally- Ceramic vs Alnico. I don't really know what to say. It is ceramic and it sounded great. I was very close to saving a few more bucks to grab the alnico version but I'm no longer even considering it.

I know that this forum is already a lovefest for Weber speakers, but I was so impressed that I really felt compelled to write another glowing review.
