Fender Twin-Amp Amazing

I got the chance to A/B a Twin Reverb Reissue and a Twin-Amp. The TRRI has long been my benchmark for great tone, until now. In my opinion, the Twin-Amp beat the TRRI hands down.

On 100 watts, The clean channel was bigger and more solid. On 25 watts, I got the sound of a DRRI, only it was SOLID all the way up on the volume.

On the distorted channel, the overdrive was MUCH better than I anticipated (having heard the OD channels on the hot rod series). When the gain is as low as it goes, it sounds like my overdriven PRRI, then gets quite a bit more distorted.

Honestly, this is probably the best sounding amp I've ever heard, and with the 1/4 power switch (100/25 watts), it can cover all bases. However, it weighs 80 pounds, which is almost entirely prohibitive.

Don't know a whole lot about the tonal implications, but it looks like you could replace the speakers with some Neos (Jensens, for example) and knock a good 10 pounds off the weight while keeping the same 99ish dB efficiency...not sure 70 pounds is a whole lot better than 80, but it's a start...

Will haul for tone! Bass players know all about this.
At least it comes with casters. A good dolly may be your new best friend.
Yes the Twin Amp is it's own beast. I think it's the flagship of the Fender line.

As far as I know, the only people using these amps these days are artists that have roadies to do the lifting or young guys who haven't yet put their back out trying to lift a heavy amp into the back of their car!

Is this the Pro Tube Twin-amp or the Custom handwired one?

I know Nils Lofgren uses the "Twin Amp" and he was really happy with it. Nils Lofgren covers a lot of territory with the E Street Band so... yeah, great amp.

Yesss!!! Twin Amp love! I got mine 2 weeks ago and this thing is incredible! I've played beside one for years and finally got one of my own. I'm probably not done aquiring amps yet (), but I'm VERY happy right now. I can't imagine going back. If you can everyone should have one in their collection!
