Daul Voltage amplifier

I currently have no amplifier but i need one to do gigs with my band. the problem is that i may move to Canada in about a year. So i need an amp that works on North American voltage 110v and European Voltage 240v.

So my question is are all amplifiers dual voltage?

I will wait for a Canuck to arrive to confirm, but I think Canada is the same as US for voltage/cycles.

Canada is 115v 60hz, U.S. is supposed to be 117v 60hz. Thing is, Canada has Hydro Quebec. Drive across teh border and everyon leaves their lights on all night. They do that because they have a relatively modern electrical grid and cheap power.

I'm telling you that to tell you this: Power companies push more voltage down the line so it works out about even at distant branches. Voltage? "It depends." As high as 125 volts, sometimes under 110.

To answer the OP's question: Fender offered amps during the silverface era with international transformers and a rotary switch where the accessory outlet usually is on the back panel. I think the nothces on the switch are 110, 120, 220 and 240 plus perhaps one other setting. The're semi-rare in the U.S. because it's primarily an export feature.

There's nothing to prevent a tech from buying a WeberVST replacment transformer for international voltages and wiring up something similar.

Most vintage Marshalls have a voltage selector on the back. So there's your immediate choices, '70s Fender or vitnage Marshall. You could do worse.

This is just a point of reference: I have a small acoustic guitar amp, the Phil Jones CUB AG-100. As the manual states, it has "smart power sensing that allows amplifier to work on any AC voltage worldwide [100-240V]. Just plug in, no switching required." I know some amps have a 120/240V switch in the back but I worry it's going to be bumped by mistake. My amp just senses and automatically adjusts. Why can't all amps do this?

Because guitarists are conservative?

But I'm conservative! My favourite guitar is from the '40s and the thread about manual typewriters made me wish I still had mine.

Well yeah, but try selling an amp with a switch-mode power supply to the majority of guitar players. Or, that varies drastically in any way from the ones their heroes use.
