PRRI vs BJr and TwRI vs SRRI - take your pick

Brand new amps, ignoring cost as a factor, which would you pick..

Do you like the Princeton or the Blues Jr. better?

Princeton Reverb vs a Blues Jr.

And which of these two do you like better, the Twin or the Super?

65 Twin Reissue vs 65 Super Reissue

Just curious what the consensus is on these 2 amp shootouts.. thx..

Allen

I don't know if this is intended to be a click troll or not, but the links go through a commission-based click counter.

I think that might be an honest accident.

This happened to me once when I posted a link to Musician's Friend, and someone accused me of the same thing. But I only copy/pasted the address from my browser bar while at the MF website.

I think its an imbedded part of MF's website....

I find my Tweed NOS Blues Jr. to be really versatile for smaller bar gigs, though I'm sure people will say the same for the Princeton.

Of the larger reissues (having owned both a TRRI and vintage Super), I might be more inclined to go for the Twin because 12 inch speakers seem to suit me better. Either one is good and can give good tone.

When you get right down to it, I think pretty highly of both the PRRI & the BJr, but I'm a sucker for the BF styling of the PRRI.

I've never played either of the big amps, but I'd go with the Super--just afraid of the big power Twins.

I'd take the Princeton, but I'd throw away that C10R and put in something with a bigger coil and heavier magnet. Like maybe a Weber 10F150.

In the second question, give me the Super.

My twin was sweet but could peel the paint off the walls it was so loud. But I got a lot of satisfaction from it when I traded it to a guy for a Marshall stack! My Super Reverb can be loud too but with so much sweet glassy breakup it'll give you goose bumps. So I choose the SR. Simply amazing for what I like.

The small amp winner (in stock form) is the PRRI. It has the vibe of a blackface amp. I've owned many BFPRs over the years and the RI is real close. In contrast, the unmodded BJs I've owned and others I've played, while good amps, were uninspiring for me. Just sayin'.

I know this doesn't answer the question at hand, but I'll give the obigitory "why buy a RI when the SF's are all over the place" reply. Especially when it comes to the bigger amps where the price is so in your favor.

I was shocked to learn that a SRRI is selling for $1,500 these days when my '72 came fully serviced, loaded with CTS alnicos, in a better market for $800. My '75 PR, 600 bucks with original, and relatively fresh, RCA's throughout. '73 SFDR w/ weber speaker? $800. And these aren't steals - they're all over the place right now.

Just sayin'
