Gettig a Super Champ,

Ok I am going to get the Super champ,I know it's 15 wats and 8 ohms.I want to build an ext.speaker box for it ,got a bud that is a cabinet maker so that is no problem,my question is ,should I go with one speaker or two,and which type. Been hearing a lot about the Rajun Cajun, would that be too much or should i just go with one in a box? I want the typical fender soundd but also I want the overdriven break up,does this make any since to ya'll?
Oh and the box will be birch,, or if any scraps maple, min.1/2- 3/4" thick with wire grill cover,.

bend em tight and let er scream.

[QUOTE=david_lewis93;2341886] Been hearing a lot about the Rajun Cajun, would that be too much or should i just go with one in a box? I want the typical fender soundd but also I want the overdriven break up,does this make any since to ya'll?

I have an XD and have been loving it for about 2 yrs now. I bypass the 10" with an enclosure from an old Polytone I had and put a Celestion 80-12 in it. I don't know anything about the Rajun Cajuns but I do know that the SC has plenty of break up all on it's own in any of a dozen settings so I think, unless you're just using the clean side cranked to 10 for your overdrive sound, then I would think you'd want a very clean speaker that will enunciate all the qualities of the different models.
I use everything including all the metal sounds and the Celestion handles it real well. I've thought about getting an even cleaner speaker but for now I'm happy with what I have. The Celestion breaks up nicely (or should I say rudely) on the clean channel but cranked to 10 15 watts is way loud.
You can check out my music and pics, if you're interested, at www.myspace.com/proazza
Enjoy your SCXD.

Super Champ? Super Champ XD?? Confusing, isn't it? IMHO, there's only one way to know what amp one is discussing, and that is to use the model name for the amp.

Assuming you're talking about an XD, if you're going to build a cab, why not put a 12 in it instead of a 10, or two 10s. I think that would be the way to go. And with that amp, I would think an Eminence Legend would work nicely in it. Or check with Weber and see what offerings he has in the Fendery kind of tone neighborhood. (That is, if I read you correctly, you're looking for the Fender kind of thing.)

The Cajun is a good speaker and it seems to be the replacement speaker of choice in the XD. But I think pushing a good 12 would open things up a bit.

If it is an XD..or if it is a original Super Champ...I suggest an Alnico. I run Emi's in my SC's. The Alnico takes the harshness off of the high end in the distorion mode with the Super Champ compared to the very flat sonics of the orignal EMi ceramic that was in one of my SC's. An Alnico would take the harsh edge off of the soild state processing in an XD, too,, would think.

I bought an SCXD soon after they were introduced, but only owned it for a short while before I sold it. It's a fun little amp, but it has its limitations.

Based upon your original post, it sounds like you want to use the SCXD as a building block for bigger and better. If this is true, then there are better options available. You may want to consider an all-tube combo. You'll spend less money and get better results.

I put a Celestion G10 Vintage in mine and it was a good upgrade. The amp has a much fuller sound.

But if I was going to go through the trouble of building a whole new cabinet, I would go for a 15 inch speaker, and either use a Big Ben or a Jensen Neo.

I don't have to do that, I happen to have a 2 x 10 and a 2 x 12 cab I can use.
