BF Pro Reverb VS. BF Deluxe Reverb
I have an all original 1966 BF Pro Reverb that I love, but lately have been gassing for a BF Deluxe Reverb?
So help me out. Am I missing much with my Pro as opposed to the Deluxe besides one less speaker and more breakup? I plan on sticking with my Pro, but would love to hear other people's opinions on the two. Thanks Edwin

Had both (BF DR and Pro, and a Vibrolux too) I ended up selling the pro. The DR doesn't have the bottom but in terms of ease of toting and volume, it's an easier amp to deal with. Mostly, I liked being able to turn it up w/o being too loud. (this was before my discover of attenuators) In the end, I just never ended up taking the pro to jams so I let it go. Tone-wise, they are similar but the 6L6s are punchier and don't break up as fast.
For you, my feeling is that if you like the amp - keep it. They're great amps. Put an attenuator on it so you can crank it up. Get a big friend to carry it. You're really not missing much. Maybe get a little tweed instead??? (tweed champ or 5E3) Now that's something that's very different. You'll probably enjoy that much more than another blackface-toned amp. |

I have one of each. The Pro has a biggerr sound and more headroom. I've occasionally run the Deluxe with 6L6s and it increases the headroom and volume. They are very similar, the Deluxe with 6V6s breaks up a lot sooner.
Get one of each :) Winnie

I had a 65 BF Vibrolux. Sold it 16 years ago and although it was great I don't miss it. I gravitate towards the sound of single 12" amps. I like the "direct" sound a single speaker offers.
The big question is do you like to play clean or with some dirt, that is the thing to keep in mind if you go to the smaller amp IMO. Although I don't mind the 4-10" set up either but I am getting too old to lug them around!! If it were me I would keep what you got and look for a used DRRI (or SFDR) for the right price. You can always sell the RI if you think that is the amp style you want later and want to pay for a BFDR. But once you sell your Pro, it's not easy to replace it. p.s is that your amp or one just like it. The one pictured looks like it is for sale in a store. |

Yeah, if it was me, i'd be trying to find alternatives to letting go of that Pro.

That Pro Reverb is a lousy amp, send it to me and I'll dispose of it for you, I'll even pay the shipping to save you the headache.

Think about a Princeton Reverb - or a SF Deluxe Reverb. A nice clean early 70s unit would do everything you needed it to for around US$800.
Sometimes feeling poor can make us GAS for everything - but it can be just gas ... it took me the best part of $10K blown on a late 70s Kombi (non-verb) to work that one out ... |
