Heathkit Speaker AS-173?
I have recently installed a 12" Heathkit AS-173 Speaker in my old Gibson G-10 amp (The first amp I ever bought mid-70's). The speaker appears to have a switch that gives a wonderful high end tone boost maybe a co-axial speaker??? I wonder if anyone has ever seen a speaker like this. I did an internet search and couldn't find anything on this model. With the switch activated and playing a Peavey Reactor, I get a wonderful almost chime-like tone which is great for playing in morning worship. If anyone has any experiece with the Gibson G-10, that would be wonderful also.

Are there any speaker codes painted on the speaker frame? That could help. There are numerous websites that list manufacturer speaker codes for dating and identification.
Pictures would help too. Where did the Heathkit speaker come from originally? |

I've got some Dynaco speakers that have a tone switch on them. At first I thought it was an impedance selector, but it changed the frequency response too much to be that.

The speaker came from my wife's grandparents estate. He had some other Heathkit stuff but nothing that a speaker that size would fit in. The only markings are Heathkit on the back part of the speaker and "AS-173" stamped on the frame. I found some Heathkit speakers with similar numbers/lettering but not quite the same. The switch is remote mounted with about a 18" wire coming from the speaker innards going to a toggle switch. It must be something like the treble bleed. Thanks for your help & insight.
