Cab for AC30 head
I just recently picked up an AC30 head (the AC30CCH), and I'm looking for a new 2x12 cab. Probably Avatar. I originally bought what appears to be a Lopo cab from a guy on CL, and while it had some nice speakers in it (a Vintage 30 and a Scumback), I just wasn't thrilled with the sound when I got it home. It's physically small cabinet, and it just sounds small to me. Not to mention the fact that it's pointed straight at my ankles! I think I would much prefer a larger 2x12 that gets the speakers off the floor a bit more and doesn't sound so small (i.e. - a bit more bass response).
So... What would you guys reccomend with an AC30: an Avatar Traditional or an Avatar Vintage? Any AC30 owners have experience with Avatar cabs? Any other suggestions? I love the look of the Vintage cab, but I just don't want to regret getting something too large. One of the reasons I went with the AC30 head was because AC30 combos weigh 75lbs! :-) As far as speakers I'll probably start with a G12H30 and V30, and then swap one for a Weber Alnico Blue. Thanks! |

Check the size of the Vox 2x12 cab
http://www.voxamps.com/uk/customclassic/ac30cc/ The G12H-30 is very different to the GSH12-30. The G12H-30 is available as 55Hz or 75Hz, they are not the same. The 55Hz version is much crisper with a sparkle only bettered by the G12 alnico blue. The Vintage-30 is considered very harsh unless in a closed cab (as recommended by Celestion).

Thanks for the info jefrs. Unfortunately, Vox has discontinued the 2x12 cabs for the AC30CCH and they don't seem to be ins stock anywhere in the US. That was definitely my first choice, but it seems my timing was terrible. You can still find the 2x12 with the Blues, but I'm not going to pay the premium for it right away. Would rather do the speaker upgrades one at a time, and probably use Webers instead of Celestions.
Anyone else have thoughts on the Avatar cabs? |

I saw an Avatar vintage style cab at my local store and although it looked great it was huge!. Didn't play through it so I can't comment on the sound but I bet it sounds "big" just going on the dimensions.
