Winfield Typhoon-TDPRI prize--review

I won it last week in the giveaway-yeah me! First I should say that I am strictly a hobbyist, not a gigging player, so take my opinion for what it is worth. I do own a SFTR, a Peavy Studio Pro 40, and a Silvertone converted phonograph ( 2 6V6's). My ideal tone is "clean with a touch of hair". The first day I plugged it right in to my normal set up of CS3 compressor, Zoom 505 II (with reverb and 1 click of tremolo dialed in) and my AD-9 delay. That was plenty loud and crunchy. The next day I took the compressor completely out and just maxed the volume on the Zoom. I got all the volume I could handle in my garage (where I always play) with some added smoothness. I had first used my 2 16 ohm 10” Eminence speakers—later I changed to my single 12” Eminence Swamp Thang, 8 ohm, in a closed, ported cabinet my Dad built—that adds some more volume and thunder to the crunchy lows. The dynamic range from the piercing highs to the low end rumble is a new and wondrous thing for me. Of course all of my experimentation so far has been with my Tele clone evilbay partscaster—my baby, my one true love.

Winnie is my new best friend--since winning we have had several email exchanges and he is very anxious to please. A good guy to do business with. Thanks to him for a great product and for supporting our beloved forum.

Hmmm, Fort Valley, huh? Not too far from me. I guess I'll have to stop by and put that little monster through her paces! J/K. Congrats on the amp. Totally jealous.

No I haven't. Since I'm kinda addicted to reverb and delay (at least for countrybilly stuff) it would probably be a short lived academic excercise--but now that you've peaked my curiosity I'll try it this weekend just to see.
