Vibrolux clone - speaker recommendations needed

Hi Guys,

I have a Gries 35 watt 1 x 12 vibrolux clone:
http://www.griesamps.com/id4.html

I like the amp, but the Eminence Tonkerlite speaker is not the sound I'm going for. It breaks up too early. I want the Bakersfield sound. A huge, bell-like, tele sound. My friend has a blackface Super Reverb with old Jensens that I love.

Can someone recommend a 12 inch speaker to get this sound? I was looking at Webers, but I'm confused by all the choices. The Weber 12F150 caught my eye, but I haven't heard it.

Best regards,

Motor

Weber 12F150 would be an excellent choice.

That would be a good choice. Twangier yet, 12F150-A. The 12F150-T might be too bright. Also consider the Ceramic Sig 12B.

Get a JBL D120, of next best a Weber California, either Alnico or Ceramic will do.

I just got off the phone with Weber. They were helpful.

Here is what I ordered:
12F150
light dope
50 watt
8 ohms
green basket
Special Notes: I asked them to break it in before shipping it.

He steered me away from the 12F150W because it is extremely bright and he thought the 12F150 would fit the bill.

I looked carefully at the 12A150W, but I don't think it's right for this amp and what I currently need it for. That speaker would sound fantastic in a tweed amp, but I need crystal clear bell tones with some punch on the low E/A. The compression sounds great on the 12A150W, but I want Don Rich tone for the band that I'm in.

Thank you for your help, guys!

I will get it in 2 weeks and will let you know my impressions.

Cheers,
Motor

Can't beat a Sig 12B Weber for price to performance ratio, but it is
a very bright speaker, I hear alnico when I think Vibro myself.

I have 2 Jensen P10R Bassman RI that would be killer in that VL.

Or maybe a THD vintage Blue 12"

Alnico isn't right for this amp, I'll save that for a tweed deluxe.

This amp is crying out for ceramic punch. I have read dozens of positive reviews for the 12F150, and the Weber employee said I was right on.

I guess we'll see when I get the speaker! I'll let you guys know.

Kind regards,
Motor

Speaker arrived today. I've never installed one before. Anyone give me some quick tips or list of things I need to avoid?

Thanks,
Motor

Speaker is treating me very well. Much clearer, cleaner sound. I was worried that the ceramic magnet would be too bright, but that was unfounded. Each note is exactly where it should be.

I don't want to post sound clips till the honeymoon period is over, but I'm really pleased with my choice so far.

Cheers,
Motor
