Possible to put a weber speaker in a Hot Rod Deluxe?

I was looking at speakers and stumbled upon a couple weber speakers that I would like to try
this one
https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/12a125a.htm
or this one
https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/12f125a.htm
They say that they replace a Chicago Jensen C12Q. Is it possible to put one of these in a Hot rod deluxe a 40 watt tube amp?
The first link is a alnico speaker and the second link is a ceramic speaker. I don't know what the difference is between ceramics and alnicos. I don't know much about speakers.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can put any speaker you want in there as long as you match the resistance to the output transformer.

Some amps can be set to different output resistance as well. Traditionally this means your speaker will need to be 4, 8, or 16 ohms. You will also want it rated at or above your wattage. Thus, you would want at least a 50 watt speaker.

I'm guessing your amp needs an 8 ohm load but that is a total guess.

Much has been written about alnico vs ceramic. If you search on it, you will find quite a lot of info. Alnico compresses at higher volumes, ceramic stays punchy. Alnico is warmer, ceramic is more aggressive. Ceramic will handle lows better, alnico will make the highs a little sweeter sounding and less sharp.

Loogyman,

Neither of those speakers are going to do the trick, they're both underpowered for a HRDX, and will likely fry after one night of playing at volume. Try going up the scale some to a 12A150 or 12F150.

BTW, the HRDX usually takes an 8 ohm speaker...

Iffn ya want big bottom and late breakup, go straight fer the Weber 12F150..... Or better yet, how about the Michigan 12 (which emulates a Electrovoice 12L).

That would be bulletproof.

If you send an email to Weber, T.A. will get back to you quickly with good recommendations for your amp.

Thanks I think I might go with the 12F150. Although what volume does it start to breakup at?

The Hot Rod Dlx (at least mine) starts to break up around 4 on the clean channel...at that point it's too LOUD for an particle club use, imho (unless you are playing hard rock and volume is your weapon of choice).

Another idea would be to check out the Weber Signature series, less expensive and the 50w rated ceramic signature 12B would be a great sounding replacement in the HR Dlx. That British cone would help with containing the treble response that may be pretty powerful in the Jensen style 12f150.

Why exactly do you want to change the speakers? That info would help in finding out what a suitable speaker could be (or maybe even another mod).
