The Peavey Sheffield's? I like 1290 and XXX version.

I have a 1230 in my Transtube Bandit 112, which sounds fine to me, a lot like the Celestion G12M70 in my Studio Pro 112. My amp wasn't gigged much, so I imagine the speaker's just broken in at this point.

I've heard it said that they wear out from hard use, but I'll have to see how that plays out--since I only paid $50.00 for the amp, upgrading the speaker would be no big deal.

Snobs poop on them all the time because they say Peavey on the label. But the Sheffield 1230 is one of my all time favorite guitar speakers. I like some of the Celestion offerings better for dirty tones, but for killer cleans, the 1230 is a monster with few equals.

They're okay. I like the 1230 better than the 1290. I think the 1200 and the XXX are good too. There are several other non-Peavey speakers that I prefer for both clean and distortion, but there are plenty of speakers out there that aren't as good as the Sheff's too.

I have a couple 1230 16 ohmers I pulled from a Peavey 212 cab and replaced with Emi Governors. Anyone wants 'em, shoot me a PM, I'll give you a good deal.

Out of necessity I put a 1230 in my '71 Deluxe Reverb and it sounds quite good. It actually sounds great cranked, no farting out. I have an Alltone 1250 in the mail, I'm hoping that it will sound better but I'm by no means sure that it will. If it doesn't, I will have learned an important lesson, I tell you what.
