Old Mystery 4x12 Craigslist find
So I bought a 4x12 cab yesterday on Craigslist for a very modest sum, and I just can't figure out what it is.
The guy said he bought it in the mid 70's, and it was old and beat then. It's got three gold oxfords with date codes 465-840, a Peavey from '79, and one EG with no codes. (One of the Oxfords is thrashed, and not mounted in the cab.) It looks kind of like a Marshall, but I'm no Marshall expert, and it doesn't quite look like a 1960. The grill cloth looks like it's either been painted over, or changed, probably painted because all of the tolex besides the back is missing with the bare wood sprayed black. The handles on the side are a little weird, but look like they are original. The input is on the bottom of the back, and there are two mesh grates on either side of the jack. Gold piping runs around the cab in two strips parallel to the baffle, and more piping runs around the baffle. I don't know Oxfords that well, but I think the code would put them at either '58 or '68; I think the gold changed to black (along with a quality drop) in the mid 60's. But probably none of the original speakers are present. It's a really well built cab, and surprisingly light for a 4x12. Anyway, does anyone have any idea who made this and when? Here are some pictures. http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/i...nknown%204x12/

It might be something like an Oliver--my guitar teacher had one in his store back in the early '70's, I think it had the vents on the back. That would probably explain a couple of the Oxfords.

Kinda reminds me of a Sunn cabinet, stripped down. Could easily be wrong, though...
