Hi folks, I have a Harley Benton GA5 which is a small 5 watt amp, just like the Epi VJ.
I haven't used it much as I prefer my SF Champ - anyhow, when I switch on the mains, wait a while, then turn up the volume - then there's .....nothing --

turn it off and back on again, there's a short loud squeeeeeeek, then silence.
repeat that a few times - then it works as if nothing happened

where do those symptoms point to?
I don't know what to look at and some directions would be appreciated.

It's a HARLEY!

But I'v heard Champs do that, new power tubes were the cures.

How old is it? May be due for new tubes, the power tube (EL84, right?)

Yep, it's 1x pre 12AX7 & 1x power EL84 tubes.

it's maybe a year old (...or maybe 2 ?) but I hardly used it.

I left the amp switched on for about half an hour - now it works

do tubes play these heat related tricks?

dang, this amp is half broken - only which half?
