Anyone else use a Microcube?
I just picked one up off the CL. I don't need a portable but always thought the amp models sound really good and actually better than the Vox or Fender attempts at models. I figured if I could find one used for $50, it would be worth it to play around with.
My first impression was though they did sound good, the amp needs more power. 2 watts and a 5 inch speaker can only go so far. Thus, they sell the bigger cubes. I read where some people just run the line out straight to a PA system and play it. I figured might as well try it as a preamp into my bigger amps. So far, I've only tried 2 amps but the one that most impressed me so far is running it through my Blackheart LG head into a B52 4/12 cab. Holy crap! Single coils and HBs both sound great. I had a hard time getting the BH to get tube distortion w/o turning it way up, but with the micro frontend, no problem. The AC30 model is so good, I no longer feel the need to get a real Vox. The Marshall and Mesa will knock your socks off. I don't know what the real thing is like, but this does it for me. Touch, compression, and can get as loud as I want. If you haven't tried it yet, plug it into your amp and have some fun. |

It's been awhile . . .
But I plug mine into a Frontman 25R from time to time. Certainly makes the little beast louder!
The Frontman is a pretty clean SS amp, so any color comes from the MicroCube. Right now the MC is in the front room with my Squier CV Strat . . . for playing while watching Soccer (go Blues!)/football/basketball.

I got a microcube and a real vox, i can tell you that there is a real big difference, but the roland is a good working amp wiz realistic simulation and a good clear sound, wiz a lotta gain wiz mesa or marshall simulation you lose too much definitaion. The reverb sounds good to me but i don't like the chorus and flanger FX. The acoustic position is also ok.

I have a cube 30 at home and a micro cube in the office for lunch time jams. They're both pretty decent and fit the bill nicely for being cheap practice amps. I enjoy what the different amp models have to offer as well as the sounds they give, but IMO they are not even remotely comparable to the real thing. As a former AC30 owner, I can tell you that the vox model on the micro cube sounded nothing like a real vox....at least to my ears. Anyways....congrats on the new little amp and have fun with it!
