Need help with 5e3 PT and OT wiring... Help a noob out
I'm building a ceriatone 5e3. I have a Mercury OT and a Weber PT. Niks layout looks to be colored for his trannies.
The weber layout shows their PT clearly but there are some differences in the two. Can anyone help me out with the hook ups? Also, the Merc OT wire colors are totally different from either layout. Need some help on those hook ups too. You can check out the layouts below. Please help a noob out. |

Have you considered just writing Nik? I've found him to be very prompt and helpful with technical questions, or any for that matter.

I emailed nik. He wasn't able to open the pics for some reason. He did say the center wire will be the OT CT. I know the yellow is for the speaker tap. The thing I'm confused on is what the blue and the black go to. I took a pic of what I'm looking at. The blue on the left and the black with red stripe are my problems. I see the white/orange goes to the stand-by per nik's layout. Thanks

2 manufacturers, one kit 'organizer, two schematics.....
What one needs here is wiring diagrams from the tranny manufacturers and an understanding of tubes and circuits. Weber's PT probably uses standard color codes for a power transformer. IF you have a multitap OT from MM, you can get info from them as to what color is what tap. With that info, you can fit the wiring into that Ceriatone circuit diagram....maybe with help from Ceriatone, but teaching yourself through studying the situation/circuit/etc would be more informative/constructive. Learning is fun....even if takes time. (;^) |

I don'thave a multi tap. The model is FTDO-59. Here's a link to their schematic...
http://www.mercurymagnetics.com/imag...OT/FTDO-59.pdf Looks like blue goes to pin 3 of the left 6v6, black/red goes to pin 3 of the right 6v6... I may have just answered my question... |

Yep from the schematic it looks that way to me too...blue wire to pin 3 of V4 (the left 6V6 looking from back) and black/red to pin 3 of V3

The rectifier tube wiring is different on the weber PT. Not sure if it's basically doing the same thing... But it probably is.
Does jumping the 4-5 pins on the 12ax7's (weber) do the same thing as running a wire from the power tubes to the 4-5 pins (ceriatone)? Sorry for the noob questions. Just trying to eliminate my post wiring trouble shooting. Next time I'm just getting nik's trannies. |

pins 4 and 5 on those 12A_7's are the heaters. Pin 9 is the center tap for those heaters. Pins 4 and 5 should be tied together for the connection to one side of the heater filament winding, and the other leg of that winding should attach to pin 9. Ceriatone is doing just that, as I am sure WEber is also.
