Going direct with modeling - new to this
Had another post that didn't get much traffic. Hoping a new title and location will help. Sorry if the amp section isn't the right place for this.
So: Problem 1: I'm just not happy with my tone. I'm playing through a pretty highly modded Classic 30 that's basically converted to an Orange clone. I just can't get the cleans out of it I'm wanting. Very hot little amp that would serve someone very well who's looking for more crunch, but not me. Problem 2: I'm wanting to simplify my practice rig. I'm tired of making three trips back and forth to the truck for every practice to lug all my amps around. So I'm going to be selling my modded Classic 30 and keeping my eyes open for something in the direction of a Deluxe Reverb. Meanwhile I was considering, originally, the Boss DR pedal into my acoustic amp or PA to get me by, but now I'm leaning more toward something like POD or Pandora. My thinking (please somebody clear this up for me if I'm wrong!) is that this setup will be at least passable until I find my "dream" amp and, even beyond that, serve to simplify my practice rig. Is this feasible or am I expecting too much? I pretty well play only country and I'm not looking for a big range of tones and effects. This was the reason I was considering the DR pedal directly into the PA or acoustic amp. Simple is good. The more I hear about the cleans from the POD or Pandora, the more I'm leaning that way, though. I REALLY need and appreciate y'all's help on this! I don't want to blow money on something that won't give me what I'm looking for. Will the POD, Pandora (or I'm open to other recommendations) work directly into an acoustic amp or PA to give me some decent clean tones? Thanks for your help! |

I own a PODxtLive and have used it at different times for gigs. I have used it into the front end of amp, into the effects loop and direct into PA. I get the same great tones, no matter which way I run it.
However, this does not come easily or quickly! Even with previous experience with processors, there are a lot of things in the POD that can change your tone each time you make a tweak. If you take the time and work with it, you can get some awesome tones! If you don't take the time, you'll just get frustrated! Patience is the key here. I always take my POD to each gig as my "back up" to my amp. I've streamlined my rig, but sometimes pull out the POD on a whim. Always sounds good. |
