"Chaining" cabs, ohms question

I just found a sweet Avatar/Hellatone 1x12 cab used, cheap. So of course I bought it! It has a 16 ohm input. Anyway, I have a amp head with a 4, 8, and 16 ohm output. I also have another 16 ohm valve junior cab.

If I want to chain the cabs, do I just run the 8 out of the head to the Avatar, and then chain that to the VJr. cab?

I am also looking at a head with a 16 out, and 2x8 ohms out. Can I just run a cable to each cabinet? Is there a difference between that and chaining them?

Thanks for the advice - I don't want to ruin my amp or speakers.

You are right on both accounts. You have to use the 8Ω out on your head in either case, but whether the cabs are chained together, or if they're both direct from the head, they will be in parallel and should work exactly the same.
