Tube Scare

So at practice today got a weird smell coming from my silverface Deluxe, kept playing anyway. Turns out one of the power tubes was shot, the other one that had life left was flashing like a firecracker, and there was a sound coming out like a bull crashing around a china shop. Turned it off. Took it home and pulled both bad 6V6s out and replaced them with a brand new matched set. It is biased correctly to the stock tube set, with 6V6s. So far so good. Sounds back to normal. I'm just wondering if I just described a typical tube burnout because I can't risk the same thing happening again soon, I got gigs coming up. I've had a failing tube before I usually experienced a cut in volume and the unwanted distortion, but I didn't really this time. Theres no smell anymore and both tubes light up about equal. What do you guys think?

You should check the solder joints on the tube socket for the one that wasn't redplating. If one tube fails, then it will ruin the other tube if you keep playing, but you might want to make sure it wasn't something in the amp that killed it.

Check Solder joints as well the Screen Resistors to make sure they aren't going out as well.

It was gone over by a pro just three months ago, I've been playing the amp with the new tubes for a day with no problems so far. If this was anything internal going wrong, wouldn't it happen right out of the gate, with the new tubes?

It was in for about 3 days getting a physical. I got no red flags, everything is set to stock. Caps were good. Biased to 6V6s.

It could have been a bad tubes. If works just fine and doesn't have any more problems the continue on making beautiful noises.

PS GO DUCK!.
