Super 60!

Hey all! I have just posted this on two other forums and will try this as well. Photos are at:

http://s440.photobucket.com/albums/q...indale-Photos/

I hope that link works...anyway here is the post.

OK OK OK....I know this is an amp that is not a favorite of just about anybody on the web...or so it seems. But! I am using it as a unit to practice, learn, and educate myself in amp repair. I am trying to improve or at least bring it back to what it was in the beginning as when I bought it, it had issues. Some were kind of obvious when a resistor just fell off the board! I have a neat local shop that stocks all kinds of caps, resistors, tubes, all kinds of good things that may cost me more but the guy who owns the place is being real helpful and I can just pick up the parts without the web run around. I even left him with the Fender parts list and he has taken the time to gather all the caps and other items I need but I have come to a stumbling block. The Damn plastic jacks used on this model, and many other Fenders it seems. I hate the plastic thread that strips so easy, breaks so easy, is impossible to fix easy. I thought that I could buy 5 Switchcraft jacks and run flying leads but I am more than confused when the ones I purchased on the web have only 2 solder lugs while the Fender jacks have 5 solder points to the PCB. I have found the Fender jacks on the web but none have a metal jack part to attach to the faceplate. So I have this amp in a million pieces and a bucket of determination. I am sure this has been covered elsewhere but I was not lucky with the search engine. Any love for a bungler/beginner? If anyone can point me to a drop in high quality jack I would be grateful. The more I have studied this I do not know if the flying lead option is one I can wrap my head around but if someone has detailed photos and instructions then I will follow where no mere mortal beginner should tread! THANK YOU ALL and PEACE NOW! Rob

Howdy,

Gavindale: I cannot contribute any technical info on this series of under-rated Fender amps. I can tell you that my Super 112 (Same amp, bigger cab + a notch filter) is outstanding for clean tones with single-coil guitars. Mucho headroom as well.
My Super 112 has required just one repair in the 17 years I've owned it. 30 minutes and $40. That's all. Not bad for an amp hailed by many as being a "technician's nightmare". I've played a BF Twin Reverb and I'll take the clean tones of my Super 112, thank you.
Enjoy that amp!

I had a similar issue with a RK Twin. I lent it out for a gig and the guy yanked the cable so hard, it broke the input jack, and pulled the amp over onto it's face... I was bummed. I thought I'd be able to replace the jack with a metal one, but NO... Apparently only the proprietary plastic Fender jacks work. This was a while ago and the guy who did that repair has since revealed himself as basically incompetent, so you might want to check around and see if you can find an amp guru who knows how to make a metal jack work. I think part of the problem is the PCB is right behind the jack, so you don't have much room to work with.
