Marshall Haze vs. Tiny Terror?
Either the combos or the heads...
I have a nice 1-12 Fender tube combo and was thinking of getting one of these bad boys to complement it. I play blues and classic rock. Feedback?

Sorry....gotta say it....
Have you looked at the Vox Night Train yet? It might be worth checking out, if nothing else <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vxL04_EKUdI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vxL04_EKUdI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> |

+1 on the Night Train. It has a great Vox clean tone, but I think that the slightly overdriven, and cranked OD on the bright channel of this amp are the best sounds(IMO). It nails Led Zep/ZZ Top/Aerosmith tones,(you said blues, and classic rock, right?) with my Les Paul. I was also very surprised at the amount of twang this amp brought out of my Tele. Do yourself a favor and give it a try while you're looking at the TT, and the Haze.

I like the triode/pentode switch on the Vox.
I don't think MArshall has that. Don't know about the Tiny Terror. But I heard a Tiny Terror for the first time the other night...using a Tweed Twin RI for a cabinet (!!). It was HOT! |

The Marshall Haze 15 head looks a bit 'better' than the little Vox toaster !

Yeah the whole review was pretty bad, in my opinion. Nothing says Vox like active pickups, right! I also don't like the convention of starting out with all the controls at 12 o'clock. If NO ONE sets their amp like that why bother demo-ing the gear like that? How about you set it to a setting you like on both amps and compare how each sound when playing to their strengths? Too much to ask?

Blackstar HT-5. Get the head and cab with a 12'" speaker and your good to go. In fact I have the HT-5 head with the Haze cab. IMHO it beats both the Haze and Night Train in many ways.

With all the knobs at noon, you get the amps base-tone/character. If i do not like an amp at those settings, i do not bother to test is anymore, as no amount of knob turning will alter the CHARACTER, of said amp. Classic example is the Mesa Stiletto ACE, the new'est one in the Stiletto range. With the tone knobs at noon, the tone was earsplittingly trebly to me. So the sales clerk said, "turn the bass all the way up, and take the treb down to '2'. It sounded a little bit better (to me), but that means the amp had only one setting that i felt i could use . . . that makes it a "one-trick-pony" for my useage. YMMV
