Speaker impedance match to amp...help
A friend of mine has just acquired two speaker cabs. Each houses 2, 12" Celestions - model PS12, 15ohms. I reckon the cabs date about 20 years old.
He tried his little fender amp - I guess about 20 watts, max - to drive one of the cabs, by disconnecting the amp speaker, and using the line out. It hardly made a whisper. What wattage amp would power these? I am not sure whether the speakers are in series or parallel at the moment. Is one more common than the other? Any help, much appreciated. |

Line out is NOT to drive speakers.................
The speaker out is where he should have hooked the cab. The line out comes off the PREAMP before the power amp gets involved in the circuit. If the speakers are in parallel then you should be getting a 7.5 ohm load which any Fender should handle with ease.
