Fender ROC Pro 1000 (stack) opinions needed

I bought this Fender Roc Pro 1000 head with Fender 4X12 cabinet for $180 from a fellow musician who was tired of it. Seamed cheap to me. He informed me that he wasn't always happy with the amps tone and veraltility. I suspect that this is the reason whay Fender discontinued making the line. I need imput from others how to get a better clean tone out it. Yes this is correct!! I said the clean tone of this Fender isn't making me happy. I don't know a ton about amps but am I right that the tube channel on this amp is only on the drive channels and that the clean tones are all solid state? Any suggestions for making this amp sound better would be appreciated. I'm currently playing southern influenced rock and jazz. So I need it to be able to be as warm as dirty without changing amps. Any help would mighty appreciated.

Had one...

I had a Rock Pro 1000 head for a little while, and here's something I did that was cool...

Get yourself one of those Vox Valve Pre-Amp Buffers. Here's one on ebay now (NOT MINE): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

It's got a 12AX7 and a transformer and runs on full voltage, so you can really give yourself some great tube warmth without adding additional gain to the signal. It's designed to run through your effects loop, and has input and output level controls. Also, it has it's own effects loop which can be useful.

I found mine used for $90, so you may be able to shop around and find a better deal than the Ebay example.

I have recently picked up a Roc-Pro 700 combo in a Pawn shop for $150.00 Removed the Blue label Emenience and installed a Celestion Silver Series G12-80 with great results. The clean channel is huge and very good and the O/D is okay.
