Push/pull Supers
Hey folks...
What are your opinions of the mid-90s version of the Super? This is the one with the 4x10 cab, effects loop, channel switching and several push/pull pots on the front panel. Nothing like a traditional Super I know, but are they good in their own right? Can anyone compare it to a HD DeVille 4x10? I have a chance to get one that's in great shape, at a pretty low price.

had one...
The circuit is based on the bassman said Fender.
I bought it from a guy who had dropped Jensen in. I liked the Clean Channel but never used the other "muddy" two as I liked my Tube Factor (only the green channel) more playing classic and new country. I then switched to the real thing. A silverface to blackface modded Super Reverb. Way better sounding imho which counts also for the reverb. Another thing. the Super from the 90īs is PCB and not Point to point wired. Service unfriendly from what I learned here. These amps are okay but I would not die to get it back. I would always opt for a silverface amp instead and use stompboxes for distortion. Concerning the price: They run for 700-900 Dollar here in Europe. A silverface without Master can be found for around 1000-1200. I would invest that extra dough. At the moment I am using a sf princeton reverb on stage cause we switched to in-ear monitoring. So no argument left for bringing such a back killer (I would also consider this as an argument and prefer a vibrolux reverb if you gig much). Considering your last question: I liked my super way more than the blues deville from my colleague but this could have been due to speakers. The super sounded more dimensional than the Deville and I liked the reverb more but never liked the distortion of both as I mentioned before. The Super also has a parallel effect "way" if you like but I never used it. I would go for the Super if I had to choose between a deville (with Eminence stock speaker) and a super (with blue alnicos from Fender or Jensen). |

Texan,
hunt around and see if You can get a Concert, Rivera
designed ALL PTP just like a true blackface AND like the "original concerts" no rectifier tube. I picked up my 4X10 at GC for $375 about 7 years ago. Like everyone else I'd rather just "stomp" the Clean Channel than deal with the Dirty Side. I think the Rivera Concerts were the LAST DECENT AMPLIFIER made by Fender on a large scale production run. This was before the new ownership who BTW IMHO make a great Guitar. I'd plunk down $350 tops and it'd have to be cherry 8)

More info...
Yeah...I would almost certainly "stomp" the clean channel, as opposed to using the channel switching. So I guess the real question is this: How is the clean channel on this era of Supers, specifically compared to a new HR DeVille 4x10?
