ballpark price on a 1966 DR?
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a '66 Deluxe Reverb...
This particular example has a replaced baffle with 2x10's (old oxfords), but otherwise looks original (with cover). Tolex & faceplates look great, intact tube chart... anyway, overall looks very good - just trying to get a sense of what current market with the baffle deduction might be? thx. edit: should have mentioned that I'm in the USA, Arizona to be precise :-)

Ill Guess... $950 to $1300 in the current market for a non all original BFDR... I would lean to the lower end of that unless it sounds fantastic as is. Just about every older amp I have ever bought needed some work eventually if not immediately so I always try to factor in $150 to $250 for possible repairs in the value that I would pay for it. A pre 77 silverface is the same amp so I would look for a 68 to 76 silverface too. There was a silverface on CL in Prescott for about $800 recently.
I looked on ebay and the recent closed auctions for a minty BFDR was around $2k and that was dealing with ebay, paypal and shipping. Some in lesser condition sold for the $1200 range and some SFDR's went for as low as $850. Due to the current economy most vintage values are depressed by 20% to 35% right now. Oh yeah... I still have that 50's classic... |

Thanks for the feedback - actually this one is on the Prescott CL too. Asking price of $1k, but seems likely to negotiate a little. I've traded a few emails with the owner's granddaughter, and but for the swapped baffle/speaker it seems to be in excellent condition. I don't mind putting in a little work or having it done - I've got a small handful of 60's amps (misc off brand, mostly) and know the drill. I've been looking, not real seriously though, for something in between my 5e3 clone and my 5f4 clone... sure it's voiced different, but I've had a DRRI in the past and it'd be a good fit for my band these days - and restored, I'd *probably* make $ if I have to sell someday.
Anyway, I picked up a CV tele some months ago and absolutely love the thing - so I miss that 50's classic less these days :-) still, glad it's getting some use.

Teleglide, If the original baffle, grillcloth and speaker were included... I would agree with you... The non originality effects the collector value and then it must be rated as player value.
...but I have local experience here tyring to sell a 66 BFSR that has been recovered and has changed speakers and grill cloth and I can't get $1200 for it here in Phx... most inquiries are uninterested even at lower prices and don't even want to make me an offer. The amp has been recapped and retubed and should be ready use. Just my opinion... |

I would agree with this price range. BFDR's have removable baffles and thus this model can be set back to spec very easily without much hassle, though the 2x10 would be cool to try for a while. IMO, $1K is a very good price if the amp is running fine and looks OK. You're talking a lifer amp here.

Little green tweed thing sounds great and gets most of my playing time (it's in my avatar) - it's actually the "5e3 clone" I referred to a couple posts back. Of course it's not a 5e3, but that's the closest thing most folks on the board here would have a common reference to...
I've noticed in some larger rooms I have to push the thing a little harder than I like and end up with some relatively 'heavy' overdrive tones that are a little too hot for me - that's where the DR might come in handy. Practices & smaller gigs, the STF has been a workhorse for me; and with my CV tele I've it makes for a fantastic giggable low dollar rig.
