Tried the new Bassman RI
And let me tell you, I was VERY impressed. Tried it straight first, with my tele plugged into channel one, moderate settings, just plain old white bread tele with a bassman. Sounded great, alot better than the old bassman RI. (They had one right next to the new one, so I A-B'd for awhile)
Next I jumped the channels, and got a little more aggressive with the EQ settings, and mama did that puppy wake up. With the channels jumped, and the volume a little less than 12 o'clock, it was pure heaven. Step three: Channels jumped, dimed it all the way across. Good lord, it is a miracle I survived. After the initial sonic brutality was over, I tamed the bass control a little bit to get some low end mud out, and it was full out creamy rock and roll dream tone. Step four: Plugged in my recently aquired Les Paul Std. I know, I know, it's not a tele. But I figure if I'm thinking of dropping that much dough on an amp, it better work well with all of my guitars. So, LP Std., channels jumped, dimed except for the bass, which was between 12 and 1 o'clock. May God have mercy on the poor souls in that store. I think a couple of them may have experienced involuntary bowel movements. In almost 20 years of playing blues, country, and rock guitar, I have never heard a sound so sweet. This amp get's two thumbs up from me. Kudos to the boys and girls at Fender, for building one seriously kick-@$$ machine. Now, what do I sell to get the dough for this amp? :? Jake

Jumping channels
Not to hijack the thread, but when you jump channels on a Bassman which inputs do you jumper and which do you plug the guitar into? I wanna see if I can induce bowel movements with the old RI.

Channel Jumping...
Is an old trick to give a bassman more, well for lack of a better word, balls.
Plug your guitar into input 1, channel 1. Then take another cable, and plug one end into input 2 of channel 1, and the other end into input 1 of channel 2. I'm not an amp tech, so I don't know what the technical terms are for what happens inside the amp, but I do know that when you are standing in front of it, and you jump the channels, you turn a good amp into a glorious one. It's like flipping the worlds coolest "fat" switch on. As far as the difference between the old RI and the new one, with the exception of the new one being laquered tweed, I don't know, but I bet there are plenty of guys here on the board who can tell you what the internal differences are. All I know is aside from looking cooler, it sounds quite superior in my opinion to the old one. Jake

Re: Will channel jumping work on a Deluxe Reverb??

I heard a player trying out one of the new RIs the other day. Sounded frikkin' awsome to me. I haven't gotten to crank one up yet myself, but I'm worried I might not be able to stop once I start... I've definantly gone beyond GAS, and now I've got a full-on case of Bassman fever.

No, the jumpering won't work on any amp with reverb.
The new Bassman RI is getting my attention, too. I was fortunate enough to get to play through a buddy's Victoria Bassman at the open mic this week, and the thing just sounded great. Didn't have any headroom, though, so I'm thinking that this amp and a Pro Reverb w/ an ABY box might be the right ticket for me. I'm going back to school in the fall and seriously considering using student loans for things like this. :D |

I played one of these at the local GC a couple of months ago and it sounded great. Great looking lacquered cab and tones to match, however, I haven't seen it anywhere for a while since they sold that one, and don't see it online through any of the major music vendors which handle Fender. Seems like some of you have mentioned that Fender may be discontinuing the Bassman RI, is that true, or am I thinking of another amp? In fact, I don't find it on the Fender website either.

Sudmonkey, someone in Fender marketing thinks that everyone would automatically know to look for the new amp under the link "new products for 2004".
The marketing monkies at my company pull the same nonsense all the time, too, and it drives me absolutely nuts. |

Just be careful that both of your amps are in phase with each other. If you try it and your sound actually gets thinner, it means that they're out of phase. It's easy to fix though, you just have to swap the leads for the speakers on one of the amps.

Deluxe Reverb Channel Jumping
I used to do channel jumping on my deluxe reverb, I plug the guitar into channel 1 of the vibrato, then run a short cord from channel 1 of the normal into channel 2 of the vibrato and wa-la! some boost.
