Wood Circuit Board ??

Hi,
I'm considering on cut and drill a Circuit Board for a Champ 5F1 from scratch, ... and from a budget view point it will cost me less drilling a recycled wood board than buy a proper one ... (I'm in Europe)

Does it makes sense from a Technical view point too ?

... any other suggestions for a recycled source/materials to do the job ?

sorry, I'm in the "Everything Recycled Trip", at the moment !!

Thanks
Manuel

i would avoid using wood as it can absorb moisture and you would end up with "tweed disease".

Barrier strips are cheap and will look cool.

Thats a great idea ! ... Let me tell you.

... I don't even need the board, just two Barrier strips with two space holders on sides, a real self carrying structure ! ... I'm gonna call it ... " Zen Board ".

Thanks
Manuel

Wood circuit board = breadboard. As used for scratch build prototypes.

Dumble did it on occasion, and even used that stuff they cover kitchen counters with (I can't think what it's called right now). But barrier strips are also a good way to go.

I had a gutted Celestion amp (made in Winipeg) that looked to have a wooden tagboard. When I took it apart I found it was made of two sheets of a 50s nightmare

The brown smelly stuff that old fashioned circuit boards are made (which really el-cheapo modern consumer electronics tend to use), is called 'Paxoline'. It is NOT safe to cut and inhale... that's why 'caring' countries don't use it any more!

Essentially compressed paper layers impregnated with resin. The brown base material of Formica... but without the fancy printed surface. Also the material which those 'orrible tag strips and turret boards you home electronics guys seem to lurrrrve so much!

Mind it does't give you cancer though, when you cut it and breath the dust. Always wear a face mask!

That's the stuff! I worked on a couple of Dumbles that had formica circuit boards. I even saw one that had Radio Shack shielded cable inside. Dumble used to buy a lot of parts from a place called Apex Electronics out in the San Fernando Valley that sells surplus stuff in bulk. I got a good deal on some silver-plated, teflon-coated wire out there once.
