New limited edition VOX AC4TV8

I hope this hasn't already been mentioned. I searched but I didn't see it.

The new GC catalog has this cool little version of the AC4TV but with an 8" speaker for $199. Looks like they're only available at GC. Has anyone gone and tried one? I'd like to know how they compare to the 10" version.

I tried to attach a pic but I can't access photo storage sites from work. Here's a link to the catalog. http://bit.ly/1TF4Y5

I tried one and thought it was horrible it's like stepping down AND stepping down some more. If you go for the actv4 go with the piggiback 12".

I think the 10" speaker is the magic regarding the just slightly boxy in a cool way tone you can get from the AC4TV, don't think I'd be very interested in the 8. Here's a clip of the AC4TV in action.

I could see a mini 2x8 maybe, but why choose an 8 over a 10 (or 12)?

Just curious if anyone had an opinion. I've tried the 10" version and I thought it sounded great. I'm sure the 8" version can't compare.

i tried the 8 10 and 12... Why you may ask... because the amp salesmen of Colorado are relentless!! I really Really enjoyed the 12 inch piggieback closed back. It was actually very full and of course actually has headroom... well at least compared to the 10 and 8 inch anyways. the ten was very boxy and sounded like a toy to me. The 8 inch was horrid IMO it was too flabby and like you put a marshall plexi through a 112. It hurts the tone and makes you hurt for trying.

What I hear, Vox makes the 8" version for the Japanese market as people there live in a small apartment so they can't get that loud. The 10" version is already too loud for them? I think.

4W is 4W regardless of the size of the loudspeaker.
And it`s a bull**** that the 8" sounds that much worse than the 10" version.
The 10", of course, has bit better bass response because the loudspeaker is bigger, but it`s not any louder nor anything else.
I played both versions at a Guitar Center (Denver) and they sound absolutely the same when cranked.
We are talking about about 200ish 4W amps, and not 3000ish 100W amps.
Same stuff, man. An 8" speaker can take of a 4W valve amp no problem, and a 10" has a little better bass response and NOTHING else.
I played both after reading those bunch of nonsenses here, just to check it out.

The AC4TV8 is now up on the Vox UK/Europe site. To me, the most interesting feature is that the lowest output setting is 1/10 W. I have tried the 10" version, and at 1/4 W it seemed a bit loud for breakup for apartment use, at least with single coil.

I can't imagine the tone on 1/10 watt.....must sounds horrible. I've used the 1/4 watt mode to go into breakup and it really doesn't sound very good at all. Very thin. At 1 watt it gets a lot better. I only use 1/4 watt for very late night blues/jazz practicing. I don't need a lot of volume to practice Maj7 > maj 6/Maj9/Maj11 changes (and not one wants it either! It's taking me a long time to be able to make those changes fluidly )

I guess one advantage of the 8 is it's smaller to use if you want it to double as a head.

Since the head is the same price, the advantage is you can have it both ways.

The 8" model does allow you to dial down to 1/10 watt
the 10" model dials down to 1/4 watt.

Just found this vid of a kid wailing on a Lester through the AC4TV8. Quite humorous and some nice tones as well!
