Running a BF Deluxe through a 15 and/or with 6L6s
I have a '64 Deluxe (non-reverb) that sounds awesome. I can't help but think about how it would sound through a 15, though. (There's a '63 Blackface Pro at a shop in town that sounds like the big brother to my Deluxe, but I can't afford a new amp right now.)
So, I've been pricing aftermarket cabs. That also got me thinking, I've heard some Deluxe Reverbs that sound great running 6L6s. Doing a 6L6 conversion would take my Deluxe exactly to the Pro territory, I think. So, some questions: What is involved in the 6V6 -> 6L6 conversion? New recto and rebias, or do I need a new OT? Would this fall into the category of 'invasive mod'? (I don't want to change the integrity of this amp.) Also, what 15" speaker would you recommend? I'm running my Deluxe through a Weber P12N right now, so I'm leaning toward the P15N (though I might want a less expensive backup plan). Finally, is this a good idea? I mean, my Deluxe sounds amazing right now. I just really fell in love with that same tone through a 15. |

I just picked up the RI P12N without the bell cover for 130$ from Antique Electronic Supply. This is limited time so if you want to do this get it now. By the way Musicians Friend wants about 230 for it.

Cali 15
I have a California 15, ceramic, that I ocassionally run from my 67 DR. It's a big sound, I can't imagine anyone not liking. Just my opinion but I'd get your speaker first and then try it out before doing that conversion. You might like it enough to forget about 6l6's. That Cali 15 is big and clean to start with.
That Deluxe is a good one, 6v6's are sweet. |
