Deluxe Reverb problem?

My DR clone has developed a weird, but
hopefully not too complex, problem. Basically,
after it has warmed up and been played loud (past 6),
a weird whistling whirling sound comes out of nowhere.
It stops if I shut off the standbye and click it back
on after a couple seconds. Almost sounds like a teapot just before full boil. Any ideas? TIA

Maybe, how do I check? Power or preamp?

I'd say it's likely a tube.

You'll have to replace them one by one with known good tubes until you find the culprit.

Tap Tap

Remove the tube covers and start up the amp. Then tap the tubes lightly with a chopstick or pencil. The noisey one should announce itself.

Like Lance said, use the gentle tapping method with the covers off and the volume up. Also try taking the first one out if it's ok and start swapping it in other positions until you find the culprit. It's most likely not in the power section. While you're at it, you could get some nice tubes for it, and/or a different speaker.
